First! I know it's not the 109F model we have in game. But best as I can tell the only difference is the nose cannon so maybe we can make an exception? :aok I wasn't able to find a real photo of the aircraft but it was flown by Hans "Assi" Hahn who scored 108 victories with JG2/JG52 before being shot down and captured by the Ruskies in 1943

I've been looking to skin a fighter for a while now. I will have to do some research into this particular skin, but if everything checks out I will be more than happy to make it. :cheers:

It's wrong. Flat out wrong. It never had a red cowling, I promise you that. I've done a lot of research on that particular profile. It was a simple yellow-cowled plane. No 109F in any theater had a red nose like that. It's some mistake that a toy company made on a die-cast at some point and even got perpetuated by a model kit once upon a time, but has no real basis.
Aside from the cock's head emblem and the squadron leader chevron, Han "Assi" Hahn flew a plane that looked remarkably like this one already in-game:

His nose may have had all-yellow at one time, but there's another photo of it with this over-painted with camoflague:

As for the F-2, we have skins in-game that are F-2s so no problem there. There was an engine difference and a main gun difference. It had a 15mm MG151 in the nose, not the 20mm. It wasn't enough, though, and this was just a stop-gap until the 20mm version was ready. By the F-4 it was ready and the 15mm was replaced (for good reason!).

EDIT2: P.S. Re-reading this I think I might have come off as a little harsher than I really intended. Sorry if that is the case. This red 109F is a bit of a sore spot for me. I was busy looking into that thing for a long long time a few years back. I really really wanted it to exist, but alas all records indicate yellow was the color.

I can't tell if you're joking, but to be honest that IS how I felt. I felt like Christmas had been ruined. Oh well. There are plenty of other planes to skin!

It really does feel like Christmas has been ruined!
On that note second choice (Was saving this one for later) would be Heinrich Ehrler's 109G2. :)

Forgot to thank Krusty for the information before somebody's time was wasted researching and possibly skinning that red nose 109. Even if he did break my heart. :cry

Yeah I used that one for quite a while, but since I fly with JG5 I would like a JG5 G2 skin. I think they're different enough to warrant a separate skin.

Thanks, unfortunately the computer I play AH and skin on has suffered a potentialy mortal failure. All in-progress skins and associated reference, templates, etc, may be lost. I should know for sure how bad the damage is by next the end of this week. If all previous work is lost, I'll be starting from scretch with the 109E. Of course I'll need a decent computer first, not this POS that barely runs the Bbs.
