I know everyone is gonna hate on me cause I brought it up, but I don't really care. It's a okay game and I'd like to see a post about it, that's not just some other guys yelling back and forth, making this look like the WoT forum.
I really think it will not take down AcesHighII because AcesHighII has SKILLED players, because sometimes the game play requires such a player... not a player who needs simple controls like in War Thunder.
I myself wish I was better at this game, so I could come back and be worth something to my team, but I'm not. So I'm off to War Thunder the planet full of whiners, rammers, and (if I'm lucky) players who know what they are doing, so I can have a fun dogfight.
I forget where I was going with this post in the first place, but now its basically a warning... Stay away from the rammers and whiners!,if your good at this game don't play War Thunder! lol

If you want to talk about War Thunder, I would recommend doing so on their own forums.
ack-ack

If you want to talk about War Thunder, then I suggest you do so in the O'club forum. Hold on just a minute, I'm confused.
Ah, never mind.
Personally, I think a World of Warplanes clone game with mouse controls and WW-2 planes isn't what I want to play. If you can fly using just a mouse and keyboard, then it doesn't really feel like a proper flight simulator. It is clearly just a game. Emphasis on "game".
I like flight sims that say "Joystick required". Preferably also rudder pedals.
However, if War Thunder has a hardcore mode that is cockpit only, stalls, spins, and plays better with a joystick than the guys with just keyboard and mouse controls, then I will give it a try.
I haven't actually tried it out, though.

I play AH and ROF and found War Thunder very strange :old:
In regards to posting about it here, its a outrage :rofl
-
I want AH with War Thunder graphics
I tried a few times to enjoy War Thunder but I just can't ;< AH has spoiled me for lesser flight sims

My thoughts exactly. Very pretty has a great replay and view system within the replay viewer some thing id like to see in aces high one day but other than that just a novelty.

It does not even support joysticks properly in the sense that in 'arcade' mode you are handicapping yourself to people who use the trainer mode mouse control.
It had me thinking about re-subbing for a little while but I am concerned over population issues since I find myself playing at odd non-prime time hours. I was playing it feverishly for a while but all I can think about are its short comings. I really detest playing with a mouse. I detest the lack of freedom playing with a mouse gives me. I detest the simplicity of the FM and how it rewards bad behavior and most of all I detest the lack of immersion since there is no point not flying around in external view with a mouse and a magical genie who corrects your flight inputs.
The breed of combat Sim gamers are dieing out and there are very few if any replacements coming up to replace them. Gamers today are generally unwilling to put time into learning and mastering challenges and simply want to get up running right out of the box as soon as a game is installed. It has me worried about the future of our niche genre, not just for aces high (I have not played it in years).

yea I tryed to program my stick so I can look around like on aces high and couldn't, but there are some pilots in there you just have to find em.

I hope you abuse a drug of some sort. At least then you'll have something to blame.

Nah don't worry, I'm used to it. These days most of the YT vids posted here are not available to me, as well as many of the 'most watched' worldwide. If there's any music in it, chances are good we are blocked.
Heck, one of the russian dashcam comet vids was even blocked for a time beacuse the guy in the car was listnening to the radio while driving, and a tune was playing... :bhead

AH will always be the best flight game IMO. However, with all the school I'm doing for the Mavy, I really haven't had the time to get into AH for the long flights to battles that sometimes end in a few seconds, which is why I checked out War Thunder. No, it's no AH, but after the first few teirs it's pretty fun and very fast paced, which is what I'm looking for right now. I've got a 110, a Ju-88, the Stuka with 20mm cannons, and a 109e and some of the battles I've been in have been awesome. If anyone's looking to play with someone, shoot me a PM, whenever I find the time to get on I'll gladly play with you. :salute

For a free game that doesn't take six months to 'get the feel of', I don't find it all that bad. It's a game, not a sim. And I find it much more enjoyable than the recent incarnations of the IL2 franchise.

I got myself familiarized with internet proxies while living in Germany.
The patent and copyright lawyers will be the first ones to be put against the wall when the revolution comes.

I found that video exceedingly boring for most of it

I got myself familiarized with internet proxies while living in Germany.
Things like proxtube and similar proxy solutions did work... until about half a year ago. But YT took measures against that, and now the only way to get around that would be a full US based proxy service, which aren't free if you are hoping for any kind of decent performance.
Given that most of YT is just a kind of battleground for the rertarded (comments section) that will play a few videos too, it's not worth the hassle to me ;)

I haven't bothered to go watch the video.... But after alpha testing WOP: WARTHUNDER , and then trying to get some in on the closed beta and open beta.... I decided that most if not all who I know/have known would not be even barely happy with it, if interested at all.... Now, for those who have played their other games like "wings of prey" and other games by gaijin, I am most(ly) positive they will probably like WT !
As for most hardcore AW, WB, AH vet players.... I am pretty sure you will not be happy with warthunder or even with that other one called "world of warplanes" ..... WarThunder was first called "World of Planes", gaijin changed er added the warthunder part back right before open beta...
All these different WWII air combat MMO flight games will find their own "player base" without comparing them with each other or saying one is better than the other...
I, personally, know what I would rather spend my time in after playing these flight games for over/nearly 20 years
My thoughts

I think it just bothers me deep down inside that we are a dying breed and not many newbies are interested in replacing those who leave. So, when a game like this comes out and because pretty popular I see it as a possibility to breathe new life on the genre but then quickly become disappointed or discouraged that it is not quite what I expected.
-
I uninstalled War Thunder, when they offer an online arena AH-Style i might be interested again. Technically it ran pretty awesome tough, highest settings and the game was smooth like silk, even ran better then AH on highest settings.
-
I enjoy War Thunder, but I only play full realism mode. It's hard to identify and track enemy planes or even friendlies. They do not have icon indicator or anything. So as I track the enemy and look else where for a split second I can lose the enemy plane. Without the icon it's super hard to take on targets. People sneak on you easily since you don't have icon, so I have to constantly jink to check my surrounding.
So as for challange I think Full Realsim is the way to go in War Thunder. Just try play Aces High II w/o having any icon indicating friendlies or enemy, turn the icon off and go to town. The flight model is kinda hard since I'm not used to it.
I don't bother playing anything but full realsim.
-
War Thunder is an extraordinary game. In full realism it gives you quite deep real war immersion:
1) No enemy icons
2) No damage list
3) No radar
3) No ammo counters on many planes
4) No auto trim (no aileron trims at all on many planes)
5) No artificial horizon on many planes (with no autotrims it is a real challenge to fly in the clouds)
6) Engine may overheat (if you do not take care of it)
7) Midair friendly collisions ( love to see how two cherry pickers collide with each other trying to attack your plane simultaneously)
Put it on top of excellent graphic engine (which runs surprisingly smooth on 5 year old computer) plus the total number of already modeled planes the game definitely creates WoW factor.
As for the flight model it is pretty similar to AH in case of stall behavior modeling, though AH gives you much longer pre-stall warning.
WT community consists mostly of the people who came from World of Tanks. Their most likely impression is: "WoW we could not believe that the flights sim could be so addictive and entertaining - even more addictive than World of Tanks".
These people actually play mostly in arcade arenas though which it is not a flight sim but more like arcade shooter with rpg elements. Who cares if they have fun.
Last week I noticed 13,000+ people playing on arcade servers in peak times.
I expected that there will be much more people from IL-2 but previously many had have quite negative attitude towards War Thunder due to arcade arenas.
Now they discovering full realism servers and their attitude gradually changes to positive.
As from the point of view of former WarBirds/AH player War Thunder is not perfect game. There are a few very important things that are simply better in AH.
1) View system. AH beats WT hands down. I had to put the second mouse left to my keyboard and used it for left-hand viewing from cockpit though it is still not satisfactory enough to match AH view system. Without tracking device you can not see some important gauges on instrument panel on some planes and have a quite blind 6 view on some other ones as well.
2) Voice system. WT people use Skype :)
3) Plane performance modeling. I believe that AH is the best in accuracy of modeling of level flight speed, climb ,turn, level flight acceleration except diving speeds.
To sum it up War Thunder is not a direct competitor to AH and AH customers will not migrate to War Thunder but from the point of getting new customers AH is in the trouble now. There are quite obvious reasons.
1) AH doesn't create Wow factor from the first view. Neither from screenshots or from the website which looks old like Yak's cockpit.
2) WT doesn't require long hard learning period. Everybody can jump in and have fun with mouse controls in arcade arena instantly.
3) You can try and play WT for free as long as you wish and even for free you can get to level 5-6-7 quite quickly which means you can get access to not a bad planes like Bf-109F, Yak-1b, P-39Q etc
4) WT marketing is quite strong and the game is already well known it World of Tank and IL-2 communities (which are massive) while lots of people who have heard about WT have never heard about AH.

We Must get AH more traffic somehow!
-
From reading peoples comments I must have downloaded the wrong game.
AH and ROF are the benchmarks in my opinion.
Warthunder seemed to be mass of menus, biplanes and a system of buying planes which I never got a grasp of :cry
I bought Wings of Prey which was not very good but looked nice.
