Title: f4u1 cockpit
Post by: lulu on March 07, 2013, 03:04:53 PM
I wish a re-painting of f4u-1 cockpit as this:

http://home.online.no/~andejaco/images/f4u1cockpit.jpg

In particular i don't like to see the white screws, and so big as they are now.

The difference is, in your picture its a drawing of a plane cockpit. This...

Is a picture of a real cockpit. Notice the red circled areas, big whitish bolts.

That cockpit doesn't look very WW2 to me.

No, the radios may give that away... However the bolts would made of a cheaper steel instead of aluminum. In the salt water air of the pacific, they would probably get a nice coating of white salt.

They could also be painted white for whatever reason...

The dash has been replaced/updated, but I'm pretty sure that is a hog.

Oh I'm sure it's a Hog Fugi  :D  A pal at work used to fly a FG-1D Goodyear F4U for Jeff Clyman over in Long Island.  It always
amazed me that Dan who is probably pushing 70 mow managed to climb right up into the cockpit.  It's one thing for a 19-22 year
old to hit the kicksteps, quite another 50 years later  :D

He used to fly all sorts of WW2 iron, TBM, B-25, P-51, P-47 amd the F4 of course.  I would love Mondays when he'd come back
from an airshow and leave em parked on my ramp.  :aok

I would imagine Vought would have used galvanized bolts there to better withstand the corrosive effects of salt air

Modernized and a more recent model, but still pretty nice...

I just wish it was able to be manipulated to see what the "check six" view is like.
