Title: Looking for films
Post by: B3YT on March 08, 2013, 03:23:05 AM
Hi me and a friend want to do a war film night . Concentrating on Vietnam mostly . We got the regulars there Apocalypse Now, Full metal Jacket , Platoon . I was wondering if there are other films we should look out for . I know of Green Byres with John Wayne but come on that's one forgettable film  .

Maybe Bat 21  , just remembered that one .  Any help would be appreciated .

This one isn't Vietnam, it is WW2.  But, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it for any war movie night.

Apocalypse Now    :rock  One freaky movie with some good scenes.

It is the height of the war in Vietnam, and U.S. Army Captain Willard is sent by Colonel Lucas and a General to carry out a mission that, officially, 'does not exist - nor will it ever exist'. The mission: To seek out a mysterious Green Beret Colonel, Walter Kurtz, whose army has crossed the border into Cambodia and is conducting hit-and-run missions against the Viet Cong and NVA.

How about the original 1980's series "The A-Team?"

"The origin of the A-Team is directly linked to the Vietnam War, during which the team formed."

HBO, did a whole series, called "Letters home from Vietnam"..
They were a collection of short stories, almost like Weird War..
All True..

Have them on old dusty VHS, watched a few, still Excellent!

VHS was a old recording media, that was most excellant and had distortion at the beginning of film or if you rewinded and paused certain scenes in films :old:

Cassettes were used to record music and you could hold a whole album on one :old:

Both of the above were excellent when they jammed and unwound in device :)

The above is for those who are unsure of terminology for archaic entertainment media of the 1970's and 1980's :old:

:lol  All True.. But in Ye Old Cave Man days, like the 80's, Video tape was the ONLY Media to record and store..
My old tapes have always been in the shade, cool and dry, so they have survived well.. And I still have a Top of the line VCR, that has clear Frame by Frame.. Get what ya pay for..

Analog, still has some advantages..

If only the porn industry had adopted Betamax .  Betamax was by far a better system that could use Bose  Sound system (better than DTS) I have a friend who works for the BBC and they still use it as it's so good and cheap to use .

Truly dreadful pile of excreta. If I remember right there was a farmer at the beginning that capped the navigator with a single shot from an ancient rifle as the Intruder rocketed past. Good drills :old:

Best practice is to wrap your VCR in tin foil in order that the aliens, who are in cahoots with the government aren't able to monitor the kinds of viewing material you choose to watch. I like to keep a spare compact vcr in my bug out bad with a very real looking plastic water pistol hidden in the feed tray for rapid deployment.

I also have a little camouflage outfit for my shoes, should the worst happen
