Well for the last few years my teeth have been slowly going South with decay, chipping, etc.
I started to go to Dentist (finally got Dental Insurance) last month.
I gave him a September deadline (Eldest Daughter's Wedding) to pull what was necessary and get a partial for me.
He asked if I wanted to save any (Root Canals, Crowns).
I said nope, pull'em. Turns out I had 15 that needed pulled.
I go to Office today, He says "You're here, I'm here, let's get'em all today".
Talk about the suck. 15 pulled in less than 20 minutes. 20 needles of Novacaine total.
Mouth now full of Stiches, Blood and Gauze. I'm drooling and can't even tell, lol
Was told I was best Patient they ever saw, because I was calm & stayed relaxed.
Kinda wished he had of put me out, but I made it through.

Wow I had 4 baby teeth pulled out when I was six or seven and that sucked. Can't imagine 15!

Good to see you made it thru Oz!! :aok
There are few things i hate more than the dentist....sadistic the whole lot of them :lol

YIKES!

If you have insurance, I would highly recommend unconscious next time, holy crap man.
Hopefully, at least the bad part is over.

I had a tooth break off at the gumline and the "temporary" crown only lasted 4 years. They had to pull out what was left and insert a metal post into my upper jaw to anchor the permanent fake tooth. It looks ok but it took several procedures to do it step by step. I sure wonder how those "single day implant" outfits work, since the specialists who worked on me went through several lengthy steps to make darn sure everything lined up right even before the surgeon implanted the metal post, and then several visits after that to get exact measurements for the fake tooth manufacture and installation.
1 tooth was a total pain. I sure wouldn't want to get 15 done. Are you going to get implants to anchor bridges/dentures, or just let the gums heal over and use removeable dentures?
-
You didnt get knocked out....wow much braver man than I!!!
I had some problems with my teeth, medication that causes dry mouth can destroy your teeth in a short time. My dentist said that this is what the call meth mouth,as the use of that drug can and will cause the same conditions.
Lucky for me my Dentist understands and gives me a little something something to take before I go and then makes sure I go sleepy by so he can do his work! Apparently I bit him so he prefers that I'm not conscious.... :devil

So now you are missing 15 teeth, what's your next move? :uhoh :headscratch:

 Dentist are just guys that failed the butchers exam :old:
Not scared of much, but most dentist would be thrown out of the Gestapo for being too vicious :old:

I must be the odd man out. Any dentists I've been to have been pretty decent and gentle as they were working on me. Don't know if it's just luck or what.
Still 15 pulls at once... yikes. I had 8 done at once when I was a kid, bunch of molars needed to come out 4 on each side. They were kind enough to knock me out though.
Wiley.

I shot a shootgun so much it made my teeth lose on my right side and a few year's down the line they went bad .Had 8 pulled at one time but the peracets he give me I was in no pain for a week .
Ozrocker when you go back with the partial make them screw them in . There a pain in the butt if you don't . Take's awhile to get use to but you never have to worry about them again . You can snap them in and out .

I go next Friday, thank god its just fillings. :(

Id like to amend this comment....growing up I had a dentist that was a Navy Dentist early in her carrier......needless to say, she was awesome, and if i remember correctly, not to shabby to look at while she was working on me :D

Somehow I knew that would be the only video for this occasion. One of the best scenes.

If you don't have dental insurance, go for a cleaning every 6 months. You can avoid what happened to oczrocker and keep expenses down as well.

*shudder*
Dentist = evil
In the daylight they are a dentist, at night they are the evil clown that tries to get you in your sleep

I guess $300 a year ($150 per clean) for cleaning would be cheaper. :D

I'm tolerating it quite well actually. Dr. did give me Antibiotics and such.
If you can afford Insurance (quite pricey, not much coverage in the States),
Get it!
I put myself on low priority till kids were out of the house, now I'm paying for it :)
 Oz

Your not going to like the Partial plate unless there wired in or screwed in . Been there .

The Dentists of today seem a lot more concerned with patent comfort than they were in the 1950's/60's, you guys are a bunch of wusses :D

I'm 50, and I remember dreading the dentist in the late 60's and early 70's. Taught me to brush and floss my teeth. I cracked a back molar about this time last year. I dreaded that, because I hadn't seen a dentist in 10 years. Fortunately, that was the only tooth that needed any work. I have insurance, but hate going.

WTG, Ozrocker!
When I was 13 I'd had braces finally off and retainer fitted, week later on Boy Scout bike hike was struck by car. Spent 12 hours in dentist chair on 1st visit. Was so much wonderful stuff to do the Dental College said they'd do work if I payed for material, last caps went in at 31 years old. Used to get 'new' student every 6 months or so..got to were I had a welcoming speech, the jest of which was " ..when I start to feel pain, you will administer pain-killer, or I will stop procedure, and you will get an F..". Had one student fly me to LA and put me up for week so he could do gold-foil filling for his Ca boards, having done one for his Ill boards that were in same spots on oppisite sides. When I got braces at 10-11 that dentist was rather stingy with novacain..alotta pain. Still have problems watching movies with teeth/mouth torture scenes....

I went the other way, decided to save what I could. Took 2 years to finally get it all done, with appointments every couple of months. Got to the point where in some cases I would refuse the novicane because the numbness drives me crazy, especially when it starts to itch as it wears off...and you can't scratch it.
Glad it is finally sorted.

Been 3 days now. Gums a bit sore, jaw swollen a bit.
Overall not as bad as I thought it would be.

The single day implants don't anchor in your bone, only in your gum tissue. They have a high, high failure rate and are the cause of gobs of lawsuits against certain dentists who push them for their own short term financial gain.

I had this happen to me when i had my wisdom teeth pulled......4 at 1 shot, 3 drysocketed, 2 became infected. Due to the infection draining, my neck swelled up like a Whitetail buck in rut....I cant even begin to describe the pain. The nurse in the Maxilliofacial surgeons office said she went thru it, and giving birth was less painful.
Hope your mending well OZ
