This is not the actual Memphis Belle. This is a G model made to look like an F and painted as the Belle. The Memphis Belle isstill under restoration.

I believe this is the one from the movie.
I saw it last year and it looked like it still had the turbochargers but they might have been empty.

On the 909 the turbos are installed but the ducting from turbo to engine is not installed allowing the engines to get air without using the turbo. We didn't fly high enough to need the turbos.
The B-24 does use the turbos however.

You are correct. On the nose, in small lettering, it reads "The Movie" just above the larger " Memphis Belle" lettering.

Ahh, interesting, didn't know that (one WOULD think it would take most of a decade or better for such a thing)

The USAF Museum folks are a bit sensitive about the mistaken identity which is why 'The Movie" was added to the Memphis Belle nose art on that G model backdated to look like an F. Still nice to have this one out there flying though :)

Last I heard the REAL Memphis Belle was at the Air Force Museum being restored.

It was on the apron at Duxford in July :old:

Nope. That's Sally B". She too has Memphis Belle style art on one side.
The making of the movie pumped a bit of cash into both that 17 in England and the one pictured in this thread.
