during a stint at 8th and I in DC I had a chance to briefly meet the Iron Lady. She was a sweet and caring lady and I would say the UK has lost one great lady. :salute

During my time in the RAF, at one point I was stationed at a VIP base near London. Mrs Thatcher was a frequent flyer
and always went out of her way to come over and talk to us guys who had to stay late for her flights.
Prior to her being PM we(the military) had really poor pay and little or no respect, soon after she took power
we had a large pay raise and funds were more rapidly available for training and exercises.

Very sad news indeed.
I really liked her when i was a young lad, It was right around the time of the Falklands War (I was maybe 8 or 9) I remember sitting with my pop asking him who she was and what it was all about...after a long explanation, i decided the very next week to do my first ever book report on her.....
Heard someone say today that "she is proof that our daughters can shatter glass ceilings" :aok

Sad to hear of her passing, still mixed feelings about her politics. We have a former PM down here who once described a "recession we had to have." Maybe she was in the same position. Even my dyed-in-the-wool labour Brit colleague conceded she pretty much shattered the Old Order, for better and, no doubt, for worse.
"Gizza job."

Not a lot of workingclass British singing her praises here funny that :old:

She certainly had steel balls and was not afraid to stick to her guns. I am a member of the proletariat yet I have little issues with.most of her policies. She simply refused to support failing industry, the British car industry failed because of managemet skimming profits and because we started making crap cars. The.miners strikes were pretty horrific but the fact was xoal was running out and the mines were running at a loss :old:
-
Coal was not running out, her mates had shares in South African coal mines under apartheid :rofl
The City of London is a direct result of that era and how Proud we are :rofl
I bought a £2000 gaming pc with cash, nothing to do with any politician :)
At least she actually said what she was going to do to British manufacturing :rofl
We make better Big Macs now :rofl
And scratch cards :rofl
German cars are overpriced and produced by over paid workers, I cant wait for the Chinese to start sniffing around BMW and Mercrapdies :rofl

Its all fibs :headscratch:

I'm right about the cars though. British craftsmen and engineers were for decades the envy of the world, and for a lot of reasons still are. The problems arose from the ambivalent attitudes of yammy car workers who were so lacklustre in their work ethic that they produced rubbish. An attitude that has in recent yesrs seemed to pervade the country's workforce :old:
