Title: Proof GV ground collision modeling is accurate and realistic
Post by: Ack-Ack on April 09, 2013, 08:50:06 PM
There have been many whines and crying over the years about the supposed unrealistic collision modeling in GVs with ground objects, such as trees stopping a GV dead in its tracks.  To put these cries of unrealism to sleep, here is a video that clearly shows how true to life the ground collision modeling is in GVs.

Video that shows the accurate and realistic modeling of ground collisions (http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=27d_1364819367)

Hrm... a modern steel post of tough Russian construction no doubt anchored to many tons of steel and cement infrastructure.....

vs a tree or shrub?

They do not compare.

For more information see here:

and this modern LIGHT vehicle (Stryker) has WHEELS, not TRACKS, and without even trying was knocking down a reinforced cinderblock wall:

(note: They were just trying to break the gate open, they weren't trying to wreck the wall)

Tanks had a lot more pushing power than you give them credit for.

Have to agree with Krusty on this one.
Several things to take into consideration with that Video. First that is a BMD a version of the Bmp that has been lightened for airborne drops. It weighs 7.5 tons and has a very small powerplant only producing 241hp. Compare that to a Panther weighing 44.8 tons and having a powerplant producing 690hp. Plus that tin can was barely moving when he hit that pole. I post this in response.

So...A tank doing maybe 6mph at max hits a light pole and it doesn't go down?

No surprise there.

While were at it, I wish TigerIs would be able to plow into the side of a building for a good hiding spot.

Another issue is collisions are turned off. You can drive right through an enemy tank.
It is an airplane sim and maybe collisions with GV just don't work. A collision in planes .....and a wing or some other part of the plane is damaged resulting in a cripple plane or worse. Would be nice if the two tanks suffered damage.
There might not be a collision model yet. It would certainly require allot of programming
I would expect those palm trees to go right down.  :D

I would like to see trees get knocked down with the tank slowing down while plowing through.  ;)
As far as cement light poles......hmmmmmm.

.
So true.  How many times have players wished for the capability to run over and flatten the jeep or pilot on the ground peppering you with their .50 or .45cal.
