Hi,
Just wanting some information on the 210mm WGr21 rockets. I've been playing with them but haven't gotten them figured out.
Two questions:
1. At what distance do they detonate...I'm assuming this is a fixed distance (or is it proximity).
2. How does distance work in AH as displayed on the plane's icon. As I'm closing on a bomber I see 2.0k, then 1.5k, then 1k, then I think it goes to increments of 100 (900, 800, 700, etc). I've been told that the displayed distance will show 1.5k at 1.999k (the moment it drops below 2.0K) and 1k displayed could be 1.4999, etc.
Just trying to equate the detonation distance on the WGr21 rockets and the best displayed distance on the plane's icon to launch them. I know they've got a big bloop of an arc when they launch and are somewhat hard to aim but tought they would be fun to play with.
Thanks!

1. It's actually based on time, thus depending on altitude and plane speed there is a (small) variation in it. I think it's about 1200 yards, but I'm sure one of the guys using them more frequently will give a better estimate soon.
2.
Actual distance shown as:
1750 to 2249 as 2.0K
1250 to 1749 as 1.5K
1000 to 1249 as 1.0K
900 to 999 as 1000
700 to 899 as 800
500 to 699 as 600
300 to 499 as 400
100 to 299 as 200
0 to 99 as 0

I've had hits but not a kill@ 1200. It was in mid war. I asked the guy if I hit him he said "just pings, no damage." 110 vs lanc.

I've gotten all 3 of a buff formation but once I actually hit the left drone with one before it exploded and only the plane being hit died.
In game, it's a stand-off weapon that offers no stand-off capability.
Pretty useless now and I believe HTC should lengthen the time along with removing the contact fuze so the longer range can't be exploited.
-
That makes no sense. They had timed and contact fuzes. Also the rockets are modeld to historic rocket speeds and times. In WW2 gunners didn't fire back at 1.5K. They fired at close range ONLY. Often much closer than fighters fired. 300 yards would have been a wild shot just to scare an attacker.
In that regard it was quite the standoff weapon. Also consider the boxes that they were used on in WW2 had hundreds of bombers. Much more target rich environment, easier to score a kill.

Find Boxboy (Boxman) if he still flies.
He loves his 110 and has had more than mediocre success with the rockets if I recall.

I am interested in their parameters as well, specific data seems to be lacking. :frown:

Thanks for this info Lusche, in particular the icon distance display...very helpful :)
I've had only two successful WGr21 attacks, one launched when the display said 1.5K, the other when the display said 1.0K, so I was confused. But if the rockets timing is roughly 1200 yards, give or take a little, then that helps explain things a bit. Both attacks were probably launched at the bottom and the top of the distance threshold between the two (approx. 1250 yards).

Thanks for everybody's reply. I'll look for Boxman, as that name sounds familiar.
-
I fire my rockets at about 1.5k out from an enemy and I try to aim just to the 12 oclock of the opponent. But like others it will depend on closure speed. I've had decent success with that tactic but another one could be better.

Think of it as a big slow bullet and not an ordanence loadout and you will have greater sucess.
-
In my opinion, the biggest problem with it is that the damage dissipates too fast through the air. I suspect that they do less damage (relative to their size) so as to prevent them from being abused as an air to ground weapon.

Buff hunting with a rocket-laden 110 is one of my favorite things to do, and I've had a bit of success.
There are some variables, but mostly I launch right when the range icon changes from 1.5 to 1.0. You need a little bit of lob, so put the center of the formation right in the bottom of the sight.
Do NOT continue to fly in, waiting for the detonations, but break right after launch to avoid tail gun fire.
I launch two rapid fire, and often I will get two, or one and two smokers. Occasionally, I will get all three, which is most satisfying.
Film your attacks to fine tune the process, and see how different speeds affect the attacks, and prepare to get killed a lot.

what stash said used to be the right approach..
climb in and get level with the formation
When it changes from 1.0 to 1000
launch all four in a left to right using rudder and put the formation below level on your sight.
I used to get 2 to three of the bombers often and all 3 several times.
What ever was left over was easy pickings after the rockets.
Now I cant hit squat.
Something changed.
