I just did a windows update 1 or 2 days ago and I just noticed that I needed to validate my windows key. I did that and it got rejected. I havent done any upgrades to my computer and this is the same key I bought from newegg a couple of years ago.
I had to go thru the telephone thing and they validated my key.
the question I have are:
-maybe I didnt notice it before but when looking at key id in the system tab is not the key I entered before. is it supposed to show a different key or does it just hide the product key for security.
-and why in the heck did I have to validate if I havent done any updates? did it happen to anybody else?

Microsoft just pulled a security update stating it caused errors for 'some customers'. I didn't read further on what kind of errors were in question but you may be a victim of those.

You cannot boot after the update, with various errors ranging from corrupt hard drive (there really is not one) to hardware missing errors.
If you run Kaspersky A/V you are susceptible to the problem. There may be others as well.
