Sometimes I find myself landing and wishing I could turn off the reticle display to clear the glass. Including trying to land with oil on the windscreen. I know HTC doesn't model all of the cockpit functions to free us up to enjoy combat. This is one after all these years on occasion I wish we had a toggle for.
On a side note, I wish HTC would up the alpha a bit for the reticles so they are a tad bit brighter and if possible instead of an off\on button, an alpha dimmer for the reticle.

If one were to take actions to prevent such occurances it wouldn't be an issue :D
on a side note great idea!

You can adjust gunsight alpha channel in preferences.

And the real gunsights have an on\off switch for the lamp along with a dimmer switch either on the case body or near by the on\off switch on the panel or side walls. You didn't fly around with your lamp lit continuously. To use the game's alpha slider as it currently works, you have to either start in the tower or end the current sortie and start another.
I've even had sortie where I had wished to turn down the alpha to dive bomb or fire rockets then up it to fight another aircraft. In the former I wanted less distraction looking at my ground target in the latter I wanted a crisp reticle to judge lead. Based on playing the game all of these years is the reason for my request. Also the beginning and end of day periods for landing now I'd like to turn off the reticle lamp. HiTech is doing a bang up job on the environmental lighting such that I am noticing the irritation the reticle can be some times.
I know, just up my gamma. That washes out many otherwise well colored things in the environment.
I just got a new monitor and the back lighting and color response has given me a new appreciation for the art work and 3D environment lighting. I prefer not to screw it over like I had to with the previous monitor upping gamma just to get the back light up to playable at noon time in the game. I had it up so high reading names on icons wasn't feasible past about 1k because they would fuzz out just enough due to the gamma setting.

Would be nice to adjust the gunsight alpha in real time, or at least have a switch to turn it off/on. Sometimes the gunsight is more of a distraction and I'd rather just use the force.
