Just wanted to share............
My grandfather, David McDowell, flew in WWII in VMF 124

Here is a citation for his air medal

Before he passed away, all we knew was that he flew corsairs in the war. Nothing else.
My aunt found a box with this stuff, including the citation.
From that I did some web searches and found this pic.
He is 3rd from left middle row.

My sons middle name, David, is in his honor.

:salute Good for you in recognizing your grandfather. :salute
It is always great when players have not only a direct affiliation with someone who flew aircraft in WWII (parent, grandparent, uncle, neighbor, etc), but is/was able to directly connect with that experience in any manner by means of stories, pictures, logs, notes, letters, etc.
I wish others would step up.

Very cool. Thanks.
My father served in the army infintry in Europe in WWII then joined the Merchant Marines as an AA gunner after his army tour ended. He died at 65 of health complications. On a side note my mother and father were born at the end and beginning of WWI respectively (1914 and 1918). Mom just turned 95.
