The new guns they put in the Lancaster's is a little over the top, I don't believe the lancs gun package was that great, and darn sure didn't look like lasers coming at you..lol. HT needs to fix this I don't know if its a program issue or they intended it to be this way. Whats the rest of your view on this? :airplane:

The guns are correct, but the way tracers are displayed incorrectly atm. HTC knows about it and it is a fix that is coming, if I remember correct.

Lancs had a gun package that had some punch to it nice to see it on the game now
-
They need to article 15 the armorers loading all tracers with no ball ammo. :lol
In my Infantry outfit we had a few FNGs load full tracer clips and there wasn't much left after the 1st Sgt got thru with them.

It was already in the game, the dual .50 caliber tail guns. Packed a lot more punch than the quad .303 rifle caliber bullets.

The Lancaster's of 617 sqd, loaded full belts of tracers when they attacked the big dams in the Ruhr. Both front and tail guns spraying thousands of glowing balls of light, would keep the gunners heads down.
you can see these 50cals loaded with standard number of tracers.

Think of how that would look with 4 x 303s firing 20 rounds per second each, and every 1 of those rounds glowing as it whipped towards you.

It is true that the .50s pack more punch, but the ammo load calculated to be sufficient for night raids on Germany in 1944 is woefully inadequate for daylight operations in the AH game. The low ammo load of such a critical position causes the Lancaster player to often be cautious with the tail guns, allowing fighters to get in closer and hit harder or to run out of ammo and have no defenses. The 10,000 rounds of .303 allows the player to be far more aggressive in defense of his aircraft, even if the rounds lack the punch. I suspect that, in AH, the quad .303 is the superior choice due to ammo load.

Agreed... I only take the .303s now... they have something like 2.5 minutes of firing time, and they will pilot wound/oil/radiator a plane with a quickness, not to mention take a wing in short order... 12 .303s firing at 1,000 RPM is nothing to take lightly... especially if you're like me and lack the skill necessary to stay out of the rear arc of a Lancaster 100% of the time.

I saw the ac47 'spooky' or 'puff the magic dragon' in action a few times and it was surely an awesome sight and sound.

If you put a full belt of tracer rounds in a weapon, it would melt the barrel, that's why the tracer round is ever 5Th shot other wise it gets the barrel to hot and would melt it. :bhead

mini guns are a
tad different than our guns.

True, but the smaller calibers generally roll up to 6,000 RPM... whereas a formation of our Lancs fire ~12,000RPM out the ass-end....

I've killed about 30 Lancs since the update without a single loss. Don't even remember getting so much as a PW.

It's all in the approach. Tail end on any buff is a quick trip downwards... :aok

I shot down a P-40E with the B5N2's tail gun in a scenario once. Not sure who was more surprised, me or the P-40 that flew up a Kate's six.

was probally a pilot shot. I'm saying in generic terms
that majority of the time they are harmless.
Although I once
attacke a Val and he flamed my 38 :furious

Nope, took the wing off as I recall. This was back in AH1 when a pilot kill meant the plane exploded and disappeared and in this case it spiraled on down.

Killed a Niki with the tail gun of a D3A before. Niki went vertical and I pulled up hit Shift X, jumped to the tail gun. Had a Niki hanging almost stationary over my high 6 at less then 50ft. I opened up and just nailed the same spot for about 3 secs. His wing fell off just as it caught fire. his falling plane almost took out mine!
Sadly this was before I started auto recording all my flights.

Another unlikely, and wierd, tail gun kill I got was on an La-7 when I was in an Il-2. I saw the La-7 diving in on me as I rolled. I jumped to the tailgun just after getting wheels up and started blazing away at the La-7. His tail popped off, even though I was shooting at his nose, and his nose flipped up, he went skyward, over on his back and down into the runway. Didn't even touch me.

i killed a p47 vtard using the gunner position of an il2. was funny.

I remember shooting down a F4U the first week I started playing AH while in a B5N. I got him to go boom, the firey type with flaming bits, not the pilot kill type. :D Still not sure how I managed that one though. :headscratch: I also managed to oil an F6 before he got me as well. :) I've also managed a kill while in the TBM with the ventral. Flamed an F6. :x

Dump the 303's ! :old:
After watching them bounce off of cons with no penetration I switched back to the formidable 50's. :rock
Reach out and touch someone.

This reminds me that I spent a lot of time fooling around with the single .30 cal defensive guns when I first started playing Aces High in late 2006. I must have had some freakish luck early on, because I shot down a few attackers and began to think that they were okay... then reality caught up with me and I got slaughtered. However, it is still fun to try, if there are no other options left. I flamed a Hurri with the ventral gun in a TBM not too long ago.

Those were the days. :) Kind of makes me want to up a TBM for kicks now. :lol

I'll take the quad .30's every time over the dual .50's, in most cases it is not an issue with the power of the guns but rather my lack of gunning accuracy. If I have the quad .30's with the 2500 rounds per gun, I can spare a few extra seconds in "setting" the lead time on the incoming target. With the .50's my window to shoot is smaller and thus my chance to plummets. As an attacking fighter pilot, when you hear the rounds tear in to your plane (be it .30's or .50's) and you don't veer off you've either got a death wish, are having a brain fart, or are immensely sure of your ability to absorb damage, AND deliver a true enough shot in the upcoming brief second or three. Most pilots will veer off to avoid damage especially at high altitudes.
In many cases it is not about shooting down the attacking fighter. In some cases it is about weathering the storm and the quad .30's allow me to do that better. At least so far.
