Anyone else watch it? I just started.
I really like the fact that it's not broadcast on some bundled cable channel that I don't want to buy anyway. Having to spend $50 on 100 unwanted television channels is something I'd expect if the Nazis had won the war.

Just re watched it again myself, after first watching it when it aired on Netflix. For a first crack at an "in house" produced show of this type, Netflix really hit it out of the park IMO. Also, I liked the European book and series as well, if you have unblock-us VPN type service, you can watch it on Sweden or the UK's Netflix sites from USA or Canada. Also, House of Cards is available in "Super HD" format on Netflix if your ISP is participating in it with Netflix, and you have 20mbs or faster streaming capability. Woo Woo!
There was an article on the AP yesterday about Netflix surpassing HBO's subscriber numbers for the first time this last month. I for one hope it is a sign of things to come - a move towards more of a "pay for what you want" type of service, or "instant view" type of select-ability for not just movies, but TV shows as well. I for one will put up with a small amount of advertising a la uTube's current advertising format on my Netflix if it keeps the price where it is, and they keep adding content like House of Cards and the like. Netflix directly credits House of Cards with them pushing over the top of 2 million subscribed streaming customers, and they are set to start shooting season 2 in the upcoming month.

Asking Kevin Spacey to perform a role performed originally by Ian Richardson is like asking Tom Cruise to play opposite Derek Jacobi in Hamlet. Ian Richardson is in a totally different league of class.
The saving grace of this show is that it is not trying to copy its predecessor word for word, it is simply an American perception on political corruption using a proven format, in that sense it is an amazingly good show... its just I don't get the same feeling of menace from the US one, it seems to me that British Shakespearean's are waaaaaay better at being villains.

The office got better once they stopped using the english scripts. I haven't seen the original house of cards but I have a feeling I will soon enough.
