whatcha gonna do with it? all of those things can be hit or miss...if it's just web surfing in your house on your wifi, should be ok.

That one should be fine for just simple browsing .. Take a look at this one before you decide ..

honestly, if you're going for the gps, you are really better off getting a hand held gps unit. the battery life alone is much greater on an actual hand held gps than it is on a tablet or smartphone with gps. something like the garmin etrex10 will get you about 20 hours on a pair of aa batteries.

I bought an Asus/Google Nexus 7 for my 21 month old to play learning games on, and I'm using it almost as much as she does. Very convenient for travel, we can stream/transcode/save all her movies on the fly via plex for car rides. Best $217 I've spent on her.

I got a GPS . Was just thinking it be nice to have on the tablet too . That way I would not have to carry my GPS with me too .

use a phone for gps as some tables wont be able to tell you north from south. I have a tab 2 and it will tell me where I am but cant tell me current heading as it doent have a gyroscope (or whatever you call it). my phone does.
oops almost forgot, a table depends on having internet to access things like google maps.

This is true; however, with google maps on a tablet you can save portions of the maps for offline use with the GPS. It just takes a little storage space.

If my laptop was older, I'd get a Microsoft surface pro pretty much right away. I think it's probably the first tablet that I think could become the single computing device I take with me on the road.
Since my laptop still works just fine though, I'm waiting for the next gen ipad and will probably buy one of those 32GB or 64GB versions, since I filled up my 16GB iphone pretty much the first week I had it. My wife already has an older ipad and we like it, but apple sets it up to be kind of difficult to share an ipad with someone. It gets weird trying to sync it with two computers and if you push the wrong button you can lose purchased items by accidentally connecting it to another apple ID through itunes. The ipad can't replace my laptop, but I don't need a laptop replacement yet. I've been very impressed with the Microsoft tablet but you gotta get the pro version and it's kind of expensive. You certainly get what you pay for though, both with the ipad and with the Microsoft tablet.
Since I have an iphone that I can use to share data with for not much $$$, I will probably get the wifi only ipad and save about $150...
