How about, Adding a Battleship,...YES i know the CV group has a cruiser, But i was thinking how about having A ship Group, With a 1 Battleship 1 cruiser, and 2 Light ships, ..I do not know what Group like this would be called, but it would Be so something Different, new,...And its not all pointless, it could be used to get near a base, Kill the hell out of it,and town, and M3, or goon drops troops,...And it would be fun, Instead of always Looking for carriers to sink, you could Look for a battleship....So, what do you guys think about this?...if you have something to add, to make this wish better, do so,.....but yea, I think a Battleship to the MA's would be not a bad idea....And for Pilot wound,if you get wounded, There should be 3 levels of Wound,..first one-minor,Severe,and then Critical....And Each Level has a Certin time, you have, Until you will die....And the way you will tell how wounded you are, you Press Control D, and it will tell you...Tell me what ya think

This is not a new wish, but some battleships and greater task group variety would be awesome, especially on some of the very large maps.

From my understanding it feels like there already is different levels of lethality for pm's. You get a certain number of blacks outs, sometimes it takes a while sometimes it happens fast.

How about, adding a battleship
I've pondered this in the past. Our cruiser with its 8 inch guns can get a town close to white from 18 miles out = 32K yards if the gunners know how to do it and are patient.
A battleship would be able to do the same from a greater distance. Since 18 miles = a cruiser's shelling range, a battle ship's could hit a town from what distance? A sector or better?
Also, lets assume the town rebuild time is at 30 mins and the battle ship's top speed is the same as our CV group's = 34 mph = 1K per min plus or minus a bit.
Long distance shelling would be a battle ship's forte. Bringing it close presents no advantage I can see since our cruiser can destroy a town effectively.
Aww, I don't know. It sounds fun to have a battle ship, but as I think it over, aside from naval engagements, I can see only 1 advantage: shelling from well beyond 18 miles. Coordinating a capture without bringing the battle ship close which runs counter to players' instinct to bring fleets super close.

Yamato's 46cm guns had a max range of 26 miles, the Bismark's 38cm guns ~22 miles.

New Jersey's 16 inchers reached out to 23 miles. All roughly within the same.

Should we factor in the fact that there were no big ship fights in ww2 aside from maybe Midway?

would bismark killing the hood count? :headscratch:
Big ship battling a smaller one.

+1 Bismark Killing the Hood.

Im fairly certain that the survivors of the Naval battles off Guadalcanal would disagree.

What if each TG had an attached TG who's course would be plotted relative solely to the primary TG. A turn delay could help with launching/landing planes.

Just reread my post, appologies if i came off like a dik Rob...wasnt intended.

Big ships fought numerous engagements in WWII. Even if you are just talking about big ship vs big ship there were a good number of fights.
-
Nah, I may have overstated my opinion that the big fleet vs fleet battles that everyone prepared for didn't really happen because the big ships were too expensive to replace.

There quite a few big ship fights in WW2 in all theaters of war, especially in the Pacific.
ack-ack

battleships are cool :)

If it were not for . . . and I don't know how to phrase this properly . . . the thrill players get from putting a ship in a difficult spot, so that what ensues is a barrage of ack, explosions, planes, gv's, and who knows what else firing from both sides -- attackers and attacked -- I'd be very much for adding battle wagons.
It's when things get out of historical context so much that I get crazy.
A battle ship nailing a CV and cruiser from 17+ miles would be fun. Can see some difficulty achieving that since a fleet is mighty small at 20K out. At least it is for my old eyes. :old:
-
Tiger IIs vs Yamato class BB would be "fun". You know it would happen.

Probably misleading though as there were just two battleship engagements, one with Washington and South Dakota Vs a Japanese Bb at Guadacanal and the old Pearl BBs at Surigo Straights.
Atlantic had Bismarck Vs Prince of Wales and Hood and Hood wasn't a BB.
Lots of cruiser engagements.
The BBs doing shore bombardment weren't 20 mile out either. It was mainly the old BBs doing it and they often dueled shore batteries and on more then one occasion took hits.
The other piece of that discussion would be having two different types of task groups. One would be the slowest BB, destroyers, destroyer escorts, jeep carriers troop transports and cargo ships for the offshore stuff.
The other would be big carriers, fast BB, cruisers and destroyers for open ocean surface engagements.
-
There were a lot more BB engagements if you don't require both sides to be BBs. Duke of York fought a pocket BB, King George V and Rodney sank Bismark, the bombardments of the French and Italian fleets.

I would love to see us be able to individually spawn ships like destroyers and cruisers, and maybe one day battleships.
