I wish...we could set convergence while in flight, so we can test out what's best without having to do a 1000 sorties. Not sure if it's a "realism" issue.

doesn't take 1000 sorties to figure out convergence...and doing it on the fly would make ah too much like

I don't get it, why would it make it look like that? Not asking anything fancy, like a volume bar except bar(s) for distance under options...
-
Why??? Just set your convergancs around 400.

played the hell out of that on our Intelivision.

Probably for the same reason you can't change your ords/fuel load out in midair...

:rofl
Seriously???
:lol

and now my feelings are hurt...

Set your convergence in the hanger and then hop in a plane, use the .target <range> command to make sure you're happy and make any adjustments if necessary.

Adding to Ack-Ack suggestion.
Set the convergence say at 400 to start. Go offline and set the .target 800, use full zoom then watch for the spread and how long it takes for the bullet to reach the target. Set the target to 400 and do the same then set the target at 200 and do the same.
Reset the convergence to say 300 and repeat the target test and so forth until you find what you like..
It is a good learning experience and will have you confident in your convergence settings.

Baloo,
Describe the problem you are having with gunnery that you have decided being able to realtime in the cockpit, adjusting your convergence on the fly will fix it in the game.
In the real world bore sighting was a time consuming process. I recently acquired the manual for the AAF to calculate the vertical and horizontal angles to adjust the ranges and convergences for all of the AAF fighters in WW2. For wing mounted 30-50cal convergence and IP was about 300-333 yards. P38, all guns about 400-600 yards. German fighters had their convergence for wing cannon about 550 and hood MG 400. That would make the highest arc point about 250-275 yards. Or the default first time install convergence for 109 and 190 if you tested them against the offline target. You can reset this to the default convergence for each aircraft by deleting the cfg file for each aircraft in your Settings folder. Only when you change the convergence is a cfg file created to hold the new convergence values. HTC must know something about gunnery in the game to have chosen the default convergence for each fighter.
Most players shoot from too far and too late and don't really understand how to aim. Most kills are accomplished between 200 and 300 yards in the game. 400 and longer the dispersion and time to target is against you unless your target is as large as a bomber.

Adjusting convergence on flight is not a good idea but most of the late war American planes were equipped with computer aided targeting system P51s B29s etc...
I would like to see such a option in hanger where u can add it to your plane in return of certain amount of perk points.

interesting, i've heard of lead computing gun sights but not computer aided targeting...they must have skipped that in the korean war. could have been useful.

Lead computing gun sights ARE a type of computer. It's even in the name...

Maybe have a dot command in the offline and training areanas.....
