Title: My Obutto Pit - Mark VI
Post by: Fulcrum on April 30, 2013, 09:10:57 PM
It's been a number of months since I last posted concerning my ongoing, two year battle with the mental illness known as " 'pit Madness "...but what the heck....at least someone on these forums might appreciate it (lord knows my wife doesn't....hehehehe).

So here it goes.  Latest revisions and some night shots (I usually fly FSO this way).

Latest view in the cockpit:

1.) Three 27" Viewsonics in Multimonitor mode and now three USB monitors (one 9" Doublesight and two 7" MIMOs) for Helios / Touchbuddy profiles.

(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8544/8696547835_74a8e93a8c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/akfulcrm/8696547835/)
2013-04-30 20.15.51 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/akfulcrm/8696547835/) by AKFulcrm (http://www.flickr.com/people/akfulcrm/), on Flickr

The two 7" monitors are mounted behind each of the Thrustmaster MFDs.   Because the monitors are too small to fill the MFD completely I use plastic sheet frenzel lens to magnify each monitor's image.  I also enclosed each with a custom hood made from PVC sheet and other parts I scrounged.

2.) A closeup of one of the MFDs.  I'm running one of my Helios profiles to produce a custom "menu" to label each button.  I have profiles setup now for all my fllight sims (Aces High, IL2, Flaming Cliffs 2, Rise of Flight, etc).

Moved the cupholder over to the throttle, also added a "holster" to hold my G13 FPS control pad:

Customized, hydraulic all-metal rudder pedals:

The pedals now connect to my Thrustmaster Cougar through a custom made cable. The little foot pedal in between my rudder footpads is setup as a DirectX button...I usually use it as a switch to raise / lower landing gear.

looks awesome mate, I am very jealous...I have wanted to get an Obutto setup for a while now, but the Mrs is adamant that there is only so much nerdiness she can take and that would be the dealbreaker  :cry

For a couple more bucks you can get
a gyroscoping virtual cockpit. One that rolls with the aircraft. Played in once.

Was
awesome

Finished?  Piff...what is that?   :D

The sadness of my sickness is it's never finished....I'm always tinkering....

List of improvements for the Mark VII I'm considering:

1.) Replace the crappy acrilic tabletop Obutto sold with a kitchen counter top cut then covered with carbon fiber.  The acrilic top is actually bent on one side (came that way).  No one notices it but me...and of course it drives me crazy.

2.) Take apart my Logitech G940 wireless headphones and mic and mount them in the helmet.  Yep...I have a helmet (see below) and its not just for decoration.....oh, forgot....have to mount my TrackIR Pro Clip and the rechargable USB powerpack I use to run it in the helmet too!   BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHH!!!!  :x

Jeez Pots!  Give me some credit dude....It's in the works!  I'm currently working on getting a mini fridge for beer....main thing is get past the "Wife Ack".....she claims if I had a fridge I'd "....never come out of there!"   Piff!  As if!  I have to go to the bathroom SOME TIME!

Wait....unless.....hmmmmm.... a little tubing, a storage unit.....hmmmm...

(Gotta add that to the list...)   ;)
