May 8 is anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, the first major naval battle following the attack on Pearl Harbor and was the world's first carrier-vs-carrier battle.
Please join us in Special Events I arena for the fun.
It runs at two times:

Welcome to This Day in WWII: the Battle of the Coral Sea!
All are welcome to play.
Runs twice on May 8 in Special Events I arena:
-- at 3 pm Eastern time
-- at 8:30 pm Eastern time

Objective: Kill enemies and sink enemy ships.
Event duration: 2 hours, but play as much or as little as you want of that.
Unlimited lives, but arena enforces at most 2 deaths in any 7-minute span. It says "Your max deaths have been exceeded" until you can fly again.
Allies (Bishops):
-- F4F-4 (no DT's, no bombs, no 6 mg's), TBM-3 (torpedo only), SBD-5.
-- Two carriers.
-- c32 and c33 start in 10.8.
Axis (Knights):
-- A6M2 (no bombs), B5N2 (torpedo only), D3A1.
-- Three carriers.
-- c57 and c58 start in 11.11.
-- c59 starts in 10.11.
Auto ack lethality turned way, way down -- be aware auto ack won't save you.
All ships require 10,000 lbs of damage each to sink.
No radar or sector counters.
No 8" guns, 5" guns, or quad 40 mm.
So, torpedo bombers have a chance vs. ack.
One torpedo does 4650 lbs of damage.
Destroyed objects and ships stay down (no respawn).
Points:
-- 1 point per kill of an enemy.
-- 50 points per enemy ship sunk.
Side split 50/50.

Object Settings:
Ship, Hardness = 8
Destroy 8", 5", and quad 40 mm (".det f32baa 1"; ".det f32bat 1"; and so on).
Weapons settings:
F4F-4: disable drop tanks, bombs, 6 mg's.
TBM: disable bombs and rockets.
A6M2: disable bombs.
B5N: disable bombs.

Unfortunately, I had to start it early as there is another event running that day.
But the later of the two sessions starts at 8:30 pm Eastern, and will run for 2 hours. So, if you can make it at 9:30 pm Eastern, please still join us.

Are the CVs set on a fixed course or will players be allowed to control them for evasive action?
I'm in for the 9:30 EST round

I like this event but can we start the carrier groups closer together? There's a lot of wasted commute time for a 2 hour event.

Assuming ground speed of 200Mph, you cover 2 sectors in approximately 15 minutes; at 150 it's around 20 minutes. If you're defending, travel time is approximately however long you want to circle for altitude.

Players can maneuver the task groups.
