Title: Blood pressure and my new job
Post by: Vulcan on May 08, 2013, 08:25:45 PM
So I've got high blood pressure, doc wants to know why. Well, I say,  I have a new job, I spend around half the month travelling out of town.

So? Well ... this is Wellington airport, where I live... about 70% of the landings are like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4hq4PzZIq4

My personal favourite is at 6.15 :D

But yeah, high blood pressure, hair loss, grey hair, white knuckles....

The 6:15 was actually one of the smoother touchdowns.

the 2:23 was more or less a controlled crash... they all are, but, yanno?

Once you understand the capabilities of those aircraft regarding catastrophic failure, those bumpy rides are nothing more than a nuisance when you're trying to catch some sleep upon landing.

The biggest problem an aluminum kite driver can make in winds such as that is attempting to 'flare' the airplane upon landing. As my good friend (flies Alaska 737's) said "You don't flare a commericial jet, you land it into the ground"

Wellington is quite famous for it's winds. But at least that wind was more or less down the runway. We've been hammered with high winds here recently particularly northerlys. With most runways West-East, it leads to some interesting moments and great Youtube videos. Luckily no one was filming when I landed with a plus 20kt crosswind recently. Safe but not pretty! :joystick:

As for blood pressure, well mine is kept in check with two types of meds a day! That could be in your future too!

Hahaha ... I always enjoy Wellington landings...one is never like the last..... One landing I had there got me a little concerned once though.... the pilot came in a bit fast (compared to what I was used to ) and we almost used up the whole runway.... I just remember watching the the runway markers thinking hmmmmm   I don't remember coming this far down before...hahaha

I'd like to see you say that on the inside of that ride rip :)

Your blood pressure is up because when traveling, you are eating in restaurants, probably the wrong foods, and not getting enough exercise.
