Snail,
Any data on what portion of all pilot deaths are attributable to ack?
-
This is a question I can not answer exactly completely, as I can track only deaths resulting in a kill credit for another player. So most of the puffy ack deaths (over the strats for example), or someone dying to field auto-ack won't show in the records.
That being said, in the first 4 months of 2013 gun ship/field (manned ack) has been credited with 8.3% of all plane kills, AA vehicles & PT boat with 9%. (Other GV with 4.8%).
From my experience in AH, I would estimate the number puffy ack deaths to be considerably lower than the number of deaths by either manned ack or AA vehicles.

8.3% from manned acks is quite a lot. There could be a significant portion of proxy kills of planes augering, or hit by the auto acks and the gunner is the closest player to get the proxy.

CV combat. This generates an enormous numer of kills/deaths in very short time. B-25s and Ju-88's with torps, coming in on the deck, Lancasters at mast height, Jabos ib for the CA...
If all the differend manned acks had their own stats, I would expect the 5" to lead by a mile.

Ty for answering.
I asked because I fancy airfield ack kills a goodly portion of pilots.
That matters because I'm no fan of the "take down all the hangars" capture method which has been in vogue for a few years.
VH, field ack, cap, then town affords more fun. And that's how we did it when I began playing.

Addendum:
I just checked my "kills by map" data from last year. I found the share of manned ack has on all kills tripling between pure land maps and CV combat heavy maps.
A bit more info will be added to the Megastats thread

It always seemed to me the more expensive the plane. the easier the robots can kill you.

Yes but kills by auto ack can get assigned to a nearby player by proxy. So those will show up as kills by a player and not by ack. I'm guessing that is huge % of the auto ack kills (base and puffy) which makes calulating the ack kills acurately impossible. :salute

Too bad there are no stats on being killed by friendly(?) puffy ack. All I can say is #*&#(*^##!!
