Title: Is there post WWII game similar to AH in concept
Post by: artik on May 12, 2013, 05:56:45 AM
I'm looking for multiplayer air combat simulator for later periods:

Korean War:
-----------

MiG-15, F-86, F-84, F-80

Six Day War:
------------

MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-21, Mirage III, Mistere IV, Super Mistere

Vietnam:
--------

MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-21, F-4, F-5, A-4

Yom Kippur:
----------

MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-21, Mirage III, Mirage V, F-4, A-4

Does anybody know such a game, once there was Targetware/Target Korea, but it seems to be down

Artik, there are no multi player air combat games that are similar to AH's MAs. However if you're interested in jet combat with more limited multi player, but still great fun, you should look into Third Wire's Strike Fighters series. They also have an Israeli campaign version (Strike Fighters Israel).

DCS does an excellent 1980's Cold War combat simulation with Flaming Cliffs 3. More study sim than Third Wire's games though.

Is there any Korean war type sims out there? Migs vs F86s and the like seems pretty interesting.

Yes I have heart about SF series but it seems more fight against AI plains and you can fly only a planes of a one side.

now About DCS

I'm little bit skeptical about an ability to closely simulate the performance of the modern Jets as still most of the data is quite classified and I don't think there are enough sources.

Also the data about modern missiles and their performance even more obscure as for example modern Vympel, AIM-9, Python and AMRAM missiles.

The latest real statistical data is known for AIM-9L series, Python-3 that would refer somehow to reliability is
known from the  Bekaa Valley Turkey Shoot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mole_Cricket_19) probably the last existing massive air to air combat (1982) against reasonable trained and active air force - also it has only one sided statistics.

On the other hand the 50s-70s has much more reliable data and probably it is easier to get a real data about the performance of the aircraft and of course the weapons
