her granddad did that...she brought it to me...well she brought like 15 of them and thats the one I thought would make the best tat....never fly fished before....looks like a good day to get angry  :rofl

to me thats what tattooing is about..she loved her gramps and got a living piece of art for remembering him.......Tattoo's are "an outward expression of one's inner self" it is Living breathing art....

one difference between Tattooed people and non Tattooed people...tattooed people DONT care if you don't have tattoo's.

but I don't really tattoo anymore at least not the general public I walked away from it a couple years ago....still love it, just dont agree with the whole Fad of it....tattoos are not for everyone.

PS: One day I'll get my books out and tell you the name of that fly,it's a salmon streamer but I don't recall it's name off hand. And ya it can be frustrating!

<snip>tattoos are not for everyone.
I've seen tattoos that yell out loud that the person wearing (is that a correct expression about tattoos?) them has not taken his/her medicine in due time. When I want one, take me to the shrink, please.

I'm not saying that tattoos weren't art in one form. The ones Ink shows are brilliant examples of artistic skills and craftmanship.

What makes me wonder, is the plethora of nightmare stuff in tats. Do skulls, snakes and beasts tell something about the person carrying them? On the other hand, one of the scariest tattoos looked like a kid's crayon drawings inspired by Disney's SillySymphony Flowers and Trees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWEzHE7wn7U) or Springtime (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABFRvrHhrws)...

you dont wear a tattoo, that would imply you can take it off ;)

I have 73 skulls on me all done before I was 22....then all I thought about was hurting people so It fit the times...now I just look at them as history.

I got one tat. I don't think I'll get another one unless it is something very special. I feel tattoos should mean something. A lot of people do have tattoos that mean something, but similarly, I know a lot that have tats just 'to be cool' which I feel is a massive mistake.

My tattoo is of my family crest with a few addornments. Every male member of my family has the crest tattooed and so I really wanted to get it but wanted to be differant and to stand out. I feel I have achieved it

Yes this photo was taken the day I got it, hence the clingfilm over it.

Really nice work, Ink.  Particularly like the hawk and the moray.

I've never seen the big deal with people having tattoos or not.  The only time a tattoo bothers me is if it's really shoddy work. ;)  Old style mostly black ones are cool IMO, just a sign of the different time and style.

They're definitely not for me.  I'm just not the kind of person that likes to show too much of myself in my appearance.  No body mods, low profile clothes.

Really looking forward to seeing the old folks homes with all the 50 year old kanji they hope was right, and barb wire wrapping around bingo wings that will be there in 30 years.

Wiley.

I love the artwork. I never have seen anything that i thought i would want to wear forever...yet.  My old captain was out fishing with his wife and snagged his line,it broke loose and flew right back at him. before he could react it buried in his wife's breast. dont think that wife went fishing again.

Well said. And further: If I found something that'd stand the test of time, I'd like my kids to inherit that. Now I've read about a guy who had his back tattooed, he died and as his last will he was partially skinned, his back now decorating the wall of the pub his son's run IIRC. What a nice place to take your girl for the first date, by all means not belittling the affection of the people having that memento on the wall. OTOH, how much would that differ from the rumours Nazis having lampshades made out of (under)human skin, or using soap made of the remains of them. The level of bizarrity seems to have an inverse relationship with the amount of personal affection...

I never understood the love of tattoos.  It always seemed tacky and self desecrating. I know I'm in the minority.  It would not be half as bad if you can actually remove them easily; say, with acetone... :O

I have a total of 2 and they have meaning to me ..

1st one is of an eagle with USMC under it and the second one is a firemans chimney with the numbers 343 in it..

The USMC I got back in 1988 when I got to my 1st duty station in Okinawa Japan.. the Firemans chimney is the plate on the firemans helmet with the number 343 to signify the 343 brothers I lost in the attacks on 9/11.

so take it as you want .. but I am happy with them and i want another one with my parents names and their birthdates and the days they passed away on.

INK can you help with that??

I guess I'll share as well.

The best picture I could get with my crappy camera. Has very important meaning to me. Without going into any deep details, it's one of only two thing that I truly love in this world. I'd even go as far as saying I cherish it more than my own life. Anyone who knows what it says will probably think I'm insane, but there is a very very good reason behind it. It's kind of a depressing sad story, but this was a massive life changing event for me. I'm positive that I probably would not be around today if not for this.
