What is the history of this bird? What color job or point of history will she be restored to? Who is paying for this?
Just some basic fyi's.

I would like to know whats in the 12th pic, back right, looks almost like a bearcat. The 47 is beautiful, my father in law flew them and had some good stories. Flew the hump. Thanks for great pics.

She seems to be in remarkable shape even when she arrived.
Very low timed bird, around 12,000-13,000 hrs total. She was actively flying up until 2011/2012. When she was ferried to our base, she was still under annual.
We will be the first civilian operator of this plane, period.

TSS bird was manufactured in September, 1944 and arrive in Europe and was accepted by the 75th Troup carrier squadron on September 30th. She flew two missions over the battle of the bulge and she flew in operation varsity.
Between those major battles, she flew 97 sorties of various types, 27 of which were considered "fully operational combat sorties". Starting In April 45, she began flying mostly evacuation sorties, evacuating American, British, French and German POW's.
I have her complete detailed history from acceptance until End of may 1945. I do have the history from June 45 till July 46 as well, but most of it is unreadable and is not very detailed.
She will be put back into her full colors upon leaving Europe. Olive drab over Forrest green with neutral grey belly. Squadron code up front is CK, tail letters B. she will have 13 red crosses, two gliders and a locomotive with 24 freight cars painted on her for mission symbols.
Still unknown is if she had a name and/or nose art. However, I have found and gotten in contact with the pilot who this plane was assigned to, who is still alive, and will hopefully be getting this info soon.
The money we have so far for this plane is the money we had from our previous OV-1D which we sold to buy this plane. It's just a few thousand dollars, which won't cover much for her, so we will be doing a donation drive shortly.
Otherwise, it's just members donating their money currently to get supplies needed at the moment.
Looks like a T28
it indeed is. There is actually six aircraft present in that photo.
T-28B, L-21B Seneca (super cub), Fairchild F-24, 2/3 scale P-51 and a BD-4.
The t-28 is in restoration, but is now on hold till we finish the c47. The L-21 is being refinished after a ground loop, the F-24 is on hold due to the L-21 and the p-51 and bd-4 are just statics. The BD-4 may go the National air and space museum though.

I got curious about the 12/24/1944 flight to Bastogne. So I plotted it, as best I could. :salute
"...
December 24th, 1944 – Flew supply mission to Bastone, Belgium (Battle of the Bulge)
Air dropped supplies (mostly ammo) to the 101st Airborne Division who were isolated by the enemy on the ground. Supplies dropped from Parapacks and Cabin Bundles.
Route flown: Welford – Redhill – Ashford – Cap Gris Nez – St. Omer – Douai – A-91 (Sedan) – Montmeday (the IP) – Bastone with a left turn and re-flying the same course out
Flown by Bussman, Mack, Bell and Austin
..."

Very Cool! Im planning on doing something like this for a display in the aircraft itself, only with all of the flights.
-
I remember that plane and others rumbling over my house or over us exploring the woods or fishing saturday morning.
Probably dosed me with something deadly.
-
Some serious history there. Good luck. I hope you and the crew can take her all the way back to her WW2 specs :aok
-
whipped these up yesterday and fixed them just now. the original side view was of the right side, so no doors for when i flipped it to the left.
This is what it will look like when done. The only thing that needs added are the P&W decals and the Name/Noseart if it had it.
Right Side

Well, I was able to talk very briefly tonight to the daughter of Edward Frome and they both are excited to help us. A little bit of information she did share with me was the name of the aircraft and that it did have noseart. However, Edward will be looking for pictures as he could not remember exactly what it was.
"The Luck Of The Irish"
She also said that this Sunday is his 96th Birthday!
-
Flight, I travel to Pittsburgh quite often, are visitors allowed??
-
Deffinately! When you walk in, there is a museum room but people are more than welcome into the hangar to tour all the planes.
If you let me know ahead of time, I might even be there. I'm normally there either on Wednesdays till about 3pm and then Fridays and Saturdays normally all day. We are open 10-5 daily except for Sunday's.

Today is Captain Edward Wilson Frome's 96th Birthday! He is the pilot whom our plane was assigned to during WWII.

Unfortunately, today I got some very bad news.
Yesterday morning, the pilot, who our plane was assigned to during WWII, appeared to have what was a stroke. Unfortunately, he passed away this morning from it.

Lol, we don't pay, but if you still wanna come up, your more than welcomed to. The only thing is, to do so, you actually have to pay us $30 to become a member for the year which allows you to work in the hangar and be covered under the insurance.
-
Today i got a package from Ed's Daughter.
Inside was a lot of stuff Ed had, Orders records, books, news articles and even an original B-24G/H/J/PB4Y-1 flight manual.
One of the books was like a year book of the 435rd troop carrier group. In the chapter for the 75th Troop Carrier Squad (our planes squad) was a picture of all of the mechanics from the squad. In the background was a C-47.
OUR C-47!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clearly visible is noseart and the aircraft's name on both sides. However, both sides dont appear to be exactly the same so there is still some mystery. unfortunity, it is not a side view, so I dont have the exact detail of it yet. Hopefully, someone out there has a full picture, hopefully...
I get it scanned and posted soon!

Another HUGE work weekend! As of Today, the fuselage is nearly 100% stripped.
More or less, the only paint that remains on the fuselage is that just under the horizontal stabilizers just aft of the tail wheel and some paint that remains on and around some rivets. We will be doing another application over the entire fuselage to remove any remaining residual primmer or any paint that remains on the on the rivets heads just to make sure.
We also stripped the entire belly of the fuselage as well as the underside of the wings from the outside edge of the inboard flap on the right wing to about half way out the aileron on the left wing. Also stripped was the inside of both nacelles.
So the left wing is about 50% stripped. Again, we will apply a second application once the entire wing has received its first application.
And for the pictures... I almost just want to say at this point lets just polish her lol.
