Great show, even better books.

I love the emotion it can generate.  Take Theon Greyjoy as an example.  I detested him from the beginning and was initially really please to read/see him getting what he deserved from the Boltons.

SPOILER ALERT -

BUT - to read/see how utterly and completely broken he becomes at the hands of Ramsey and "skinner" I actually feel a bit sorry for him later on.  A bit.

There is only one god, and his name is the god of death.....and what do we say to the god of death?  Not today.

Rumor has it over at GRRM's 2ndary fan site westoros.org that another sneak peak spoiler chapter from the next book, will be going up shortly - there have been 2 already on GRRM's site.  Hopefully this means it won't be 6 years again between books, it's been 2 already, I'm hoping for next year.  If not, the TV series is going to overtake the books, and that just won't be any fun, seeing it on TV before it's happened in print.

I hope that Arya and her little brother who is visited by the 3 eyed crow are more involved in the series, I've been rooting for them also. Danarius is a puzzle, I don't know if she has a "good" streak, or if she's just brilliant for knowing that freeing her army would garner her more loyalty....has anyone noticed that since she got here dragons and her army, we don't see any more of her....more "interesting" attributes...

The dragons, I foresee death and an epic battle.

And with winter approaching, oh. Next season I can't wait!

I am really impressed by the boldness of this series/book. The advantage of creating a lot of "lead" characters is that any one of them is expendable and other branches of the story can continue. This is very unlike the usual story where killing the lead character would end the story.

They lead to this surprise in a very clever way. Half the episode was about what the Starks are going to do. They discuss their attack plans on the Lanister's home, they talk about their child's name, etc. The only hint was that Arya almost made it there, but she says something about getting close but never reaching her destination, or something in that spirit. We are so used to the usual plot advancement where a set course of action must be completed, but here in one fell swoop their chopped off this branch of the story. Nice to see someone has the balls to do something different.

Really?  I think it is a great development of her character.  No way she can jump in and start killing without training, training and more training.  Her first "gift" was awesome.  I think her role will greatly expand after book 5.

Be patient. Remember Jaqen the assassin and the coin he gave her? Arya is going to end up at the Delta squad training ground for killers eventually.

Be sure to type in "Rains of Castamere" on youtube; great stuff.  The song is great...and the reactions video'd of the Red Wedding hilarious to watch.  Several peeps who read the series got friends/family into watching the series...then shot video of them watching the 6/2/13 episode.  When that band started playing "Rains"...everyone should have known what was coming.   Still was hoping Arya made it to let the Dire Wolf out, grrr...

That episode was epic, and still shocked me even though I've read all the books.  I can't wait for season 4 now.  GoT is now the #1 revenue producing series of all time for HBO.  Someone call Mr. Martin and tell him to get cracking on that 6th book!

Quote
Someone call Mr. Martin and tell him to get cracking on that 6th book

Check out westoros dot org, or GRRM dot com.  He's already released 2 sample chapters from the WoW, as well as he read one aloud at a convention, about Ser Barristan Selmy fighting in Essos with Danerys's forces, and it's been transcribed on the web more or less exactly as it was read.  So, if 3 chapters have been released by Martin, he's got to be closer to finishing it than he was with the 5th book at this point in time, 2 years after release of the previous book.  Dance/Dragons took 6 years to complete.  If Winds of Winter was to take that long, HBO would have a big problem, having portrayed the ending of the books long before the 2nd last book was even printed.

They are obviously splitting the 3rd book into 2 seasons, as the entire Martel's/Tyrion's Trial/Fight at the Wall hasn't come to pass yet in season 3 of the TV series, so by the end of 2014 they'll be someplace around the start of Feast/Crows.  That 4th book was a major drag IMO, very slow compared to the previous three, and pretty tough to stretch out past a single season of TV, at least at the pace they do the episodes at HBO.  So, if the 5th book was to air on TV in 2015, that would mean that the fall of 2015, when they need to be shooting the 6th book, the book will NEED to be in print and out there, or else they run into all kinds of issues, obviously.  That gives GRRM roughly 2 years to finish the 6th book, which he looks to be well on pace for, which makes sense as I can't see HBO risking their cash cow on the whims of a writer who is legendary for blowing deadlines - they would have contracts in place ensuring he didn't do this, AGAIN, haha.

I've read on GRRM's personal site, in his "not a blog", that rumors are flying that there MAY be a splinter TV series, again done by HBO or one of its lemmings, dealing with the time of "Robert's Rebellion", or the "War of the Usurper", 17 years before the current time frame.  I think this would be most excellent if true.

Actually Coombz, to really ruin the Jon Snow thing you should have said this:
Spoilers Below

The whole "Prince that was Promised", or Azor Ahai, isn't actually Stannis, it's Jon Snow.  AA is supposed to be reborn amid "salt and smoke" right - Remember Renly teasing his brother Stannis saying "what, are you a ham" when the fire priestess Mel brought this up?

Well, this prophecy was also to be proceeded to a "red streaking star" - which everyone thought was that stupid comet all through the first part of the 2nd book, right, and hence meant that Stannis could be easily interpreted to be AA, even by Mellissandra.

It's all wrong.  Jon Snow isn't going to die, not really.  But they do put bodies from the Night's Watch at the wall in the ice prisons sometimes - which happen to also be right where the watch has stored all of its food for the winter - salted beef and smoked ham.  Also, right before Jon was stabbed, the giant Wun Wun had taken Ser Partek, and beat him to a pulp, flinging him like a doll into a wall over and over in one of his huge hands.  What is Ser Partek's sigil - A red star on his shield - a red streaking star from all the blood flying through the air behind his sigil on his chest and shield, and Jon Snow will come back out of his coma or whatever - reborn - amidst salt and smoke, in the ice tombs/cells underneath the edge of the wall. Therefore IMO, after a red streaking star, the prince that was promised, Azor Ahai reborn, shall be born unto you amidst salt and smoke - Jon Snow/Targaryen.   You heard it here first - search engine back when book 6 comes out.
Title: Re: Game of thrones
Post by: coombz on June 05, 2013, 09:00:26 PM
Actually I heard that first somewhere else, but I think the way you've written it below sounds a lot more convincing :)  The Jon Snow / Azor Ahai prediction I read previously seemed a bit far fetched

He didn't just go into a coma he was stabbed brutally many times.  His last thought though was....."Ghost".  Don't forget, he is a warg.  I think he slips out of his body into the wolf's at the last second.

But, being reborn is very possible, given Dondarrion's six *recoveries*.  If the drunken red priest can do that surely Melisandre can too.

(I never realised that Dondarrion was the guy that Ned Stark sent after the "Mountain" btw  Cool tie in.)

After Sunday's episode all I can say is it at least at the same level as this was in 1972.

They all have Northern accents like i do, not effeminate ones like Southerners :old:

In England Northern people still speak to each other, down South where Bruvs lives they just stare at the floor and don't make eye contact :)

In a campy, crappy way it was classic camp. Sort of like "Boy and His Dog". Sometimes movies are so bad they are good.

 :O you don't say!?!

Battlefiel Earth was an absolute turd of a book. Unidimensional characters and abysmally stupid story (example: it's impossible for humans to do calc in base 11... Please!). We can thank Travolta for turning it into the movie it deserved (which I haven't seen TBH, but I had the masochistic 'pleasure' to read the book).

wow...you are the first I have met that read it and said they didn't like it.....(not that I know a lot who have read it)

I was never into "scifi" by far more of a fantasy..... sword and sorcery type...but I enjoyed BattleField Earth....that was the first SciFi book that I got into.....crap I read that at 17 and still remember the whole book.

Happy to spread the bug!  :aok

Thats why I see the movie first then read the book. Which often results in two completely different stories.
Jurassic Park was that way. Saw the movie. Loved it. Then read the book. After reading the book I got made at Speilberg for not just making that movie instead.
