Title: Metro Last Light
Post by: titanic3 on May 16, 2013, 09:08:59 PM
Sequel to Metro 2033 based on a novel by Dmitry Glukhovsk. This is what a horror/surviver/action game should be. This is one of the most atmospheric and fun game I've ever played. Such a bleak, dark setting. Amazing graphics too! Game takes place three decades after a nuclear holocaust in the tunnels of Moscow. Everything on the surface is dead or has been turned to mutants and are invading the Metro where the survivors has taken refuge. Play the story and/or read the book (although the book isn't as much "action-y" as the game).

I was a pretty big fan of the original, so far for me at least the sequel doesn't QUITE live up to it.  Granted the things the game does well it does REALLY well, namely the atmosphere, in that regard it's far better than the original.  I find the game play falling a little flat I decided to start on "normal" difficulty and I find it far to easy, I also thought some of the controls were better in the original (PC version).

That being said I'm still enjoying it.

Yep, ranger mode is the way to go. It sucks being a DLC but when asked about it, the devs said before THQ collapsed, they were already told to make it a DLC and were too far in the development stage to change it when the new company took over. I started the game on Ranger and had to spend a few minutes looking at the controls to figure them out. I personally think it's better than 2033 in terms of gameplay but the story and voice acting seems the same (meh). But the atmosphere alone makes this game worth it along with the fun stealth gameplay.

DLC = ?

The $5 DLC adds two new difficulties that limits the HUD and increases damage to you and NPCs. It was a money grabber that THQ ordered the devs to do. When THQ collapsed, the devs were too far in development to change it so they were forced to stick with it. It's worth it IMO, because the extra money now goes to the people to actually developed the game instead of the greedy THQ, plus you get to enjoy the game that much more.

Ok so you explained DLC costs $5.00. Now could you explain WTF it is? :huh Using an acronym is a nice shortcut but it fails in communication unless it is rather universally known.  :old:

DLC  = Downloadable Content, or something to that extend.

They are usually an extra campaign, or feature, some are free some have a $$$ attached to them depending on the game.

Caved in and downloaded this from the 'store' yesterday, DLC included,  and really enjoying it so far

the engine is great and the stealthy gameplay is really fun. have to admits I'm not so much of a fan of fighting all the various creepy creatures, I definitely prefer killing the humans. but without the other elements it would be more of a generic and less engrossing game

have to say if I was a metro dweller like artyom I'd shoot myself in the head before going into one of those egg filled spider nests :scared

Just be warned of the rather lack luster ending. I was left scratching my head a little bit but otherwise, enjoy the awesome game.

For people who have interests outside of computer gaming it isn't. There are plenty of acronyms I could use from various areas I have either worked in or been involved in that have, to me a common meaning but outside of those disciplines wouldn't carry the same meaning.
