If you were the sole winner, would you take the lump sum or the 30 annual payments?
Myself would take the 30 annual payments. Main reason is that until the last annual payment has been received in my 70's. I know my car brakes should be perfect until then. :devil

Take the lump. Say maybe 400M after taxes, give 100M to charity (300M left). Give 1M to all close relatives (275M left). Take 50M and go on a spending spree (225M left). Use 10M and invest in something (215M left). Save the rest for the rest of my life and my kids and go on vacations 24/7.

Take a lump sum, and pay for the construction a gyroscopic like vrtual cockpits for aces
high, complete with a
microwave, hot pockets, and cold beer. And I live in a modest house with a modest yard with a 2 story garage, subteranian level for my aston martin DB7, half tracks and BMW sedan Mach 6, Mach 3 and camaro
the rest I'd invest into restoring airplanes, trust funds for my kids, and luring life to the fullest c

take the lump sum to invest to make up for inflation.
Then purchase Aces High for $875,000 and have all of tank town to myself to scout for chicks in my Fi-156.
:x

Always take the lump sum, that's money you can be making interest off of.
-
I would take Mr gqruzel and his missus out for quadruple lobster dinner and them buy them a houseboat on Lake Hamilton.
He'd need to get a ham licence though. I cant stand cell phones.
QRZ?

Lotteries are voluntary taxes I elect not to pay.
-
Lump sum is better.. if your countrys economy takes the dump there will be no more 'annual' payoffs ;)
Best to take the money and invest it around for safety. Or at least buy other currencies.
-
Someone in FL won it. Lucky SOB lol
-
A single winning ticket was sold at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, Florida. $370,896,780 lump sum before taxes.

If you win you take me fishing, if I win i fly you out to shoot my private course
Deal :aok

the 30 years is a guaranteed rate of return, also a guarantee that you won't spend the lump sum on the first 18 year old girl that crosses your path.
and based on past studies most lottery winners end up broke.

I am a lump sum type-of-guy :)
Don't matter what the amount is .. wife and I get a ticket once a week.
Figure to keep about 4 mil spread out in several banks and a few more invested to generate income with.
First week will be pretty busy
.. designing a decent home with a bit more than just code minimums laid out the way we want it
on a peice of acreage for stuff like a grass field, hangar, workshop/garage.
Garage needs space for 5-6 cars. Gotta put together a '68 Hemi Cuda first.
Mebbe a Pietenpohl Camper second ..or some kinda sunday flyer to putt around in.
Useda be I would have gone for a P-51 ...that boat has sailed.
Runnin out of getup and go to getup and go :)
House just needs to be 3 bed, 2 bath ..with a video-computer room :)
Rest will go to helpin out family and charities.

How would I spend it? The first $300,000,000 on women and whiskey. I'd just blow the rest.

Actually, both work the same.
Taxes are the same whether you take the lump sum or annuity.
So for simplicity, let's just say you get 300Mil after taxes.
Now that 300 million will have an interest rate associated with it that will grow it back to 600million when you take your last payment for annuity.
If the interest rate is higher than what you could get investing, then the annuity is the better option. However, if they are using a lower interest rate, then the lump sum is better.

Take in a lump.
Invest it myself.
Help a few friends and family members.
Build a house to suit me.
Have a brand new P38L built. I would be tempted to have it made with the Hamilton propellers, which would make it K model. Better than the L but with sleek looks of the G.
Live happily ever after.
Now, while money may not be able to buy me happiness; it will, however, allow me be to be miserable comfortably.
LtngRydr :old:
P.S. Seriously, with that kind of jackpot I would have my own P38. :x
-
Why build a 38? there are 4 more in the ice. I would pull at least 1 more out of there.
-
If I had a new one built and then crashed in it, it would not be a loss of a real original P38.
It would be great to try and recover the rest of the lost sqaudron, though. I totally agree on that part.
As for making it a K model, read about what the K was capable of. Its a true pity that the War Dept. didn't let Lockheed shut down for the 2 - 3 weeks necessary to switch over.
But there was a war on and we needed planes.

I'ma anger some americans.... Canadians don't pay taxes on lottery winnings... :devil
I would buy/build my own real air to air fighting arena. Planes would be outfitted with lazers and collectors to indicate "kills", each plane would have pyrotechnics to release smoke upon a "kill". Also, I'd buld/buy WWii tanks and outfit them with non-lethal weaponry for people to actually drive/operate.
...Although if I, as a Canuck, won that big of a lottery in the states, I'd be lucky to make it out of the country alive! They 'd be chasing me to the border yelling, SKIN THAT BEAVER!
:bolt:
-
"Give your children enough money to do something, but not enough to do nothing." I've seen far too many aimless trust-fund brats.
Oh yes, and make mine a lump sum, please. I don't trust the lottery admins any farther than I can toss a piano.
