If Disturbed is overrated then why was their bassist (John Moyer) playing with Queensryche?
Surely an overrated band wouldn't have one of its members with a "good" band, right?

Drowning Pool was good in their first few albums, but recently they've been pure excrement.
If there's one band that all should hate equally, it's Hatebreed. Nothing screams "I'm a d-bag" more than listening to these guys full volume on your iPod at the gym while benching half of your own weight and bragging to the woman that you have a huge schlong.
-
lol, i just relized i listed danzig twice, was looking at one thing and typed something else... doh

Tenacious D is metal.

lol, i just relized i listed danzig twice, was looking at one thing and typed something else... doh
danzig there is another that I dont like....
mother.....that song is so friggen lame....
I guess I am just too old school, stuck on the small bit of music I like.....
as far as Zeppelin goes they did what every blues guy was doing...they just got huge because they did it better then everyone else.....
listen to Willy Dixons/Muddy Waters "you need love"......they sued over those 3 words......yet another band took the whole song and never got sued....
haters gonna hate....
-
ya i gotta agree, mother sounded like something puked out in an outhouse. the group didn't have a big number of really good songs so i have to be in a certain mood and be selective on what i listen to. would be great if i could just kill the vocals on most of their songs.
dam, i forgot all about corrosion of conformity...a few good tunes to listen to from them.

I grew up listening to Flotsam and Jetsam and liked them for a long time.
It sucks when bands' attitudes will actually negatively affect my opinion of their music.
My band was on the roster with them when they rolled through town.
The local bands printed all the flyers ourselves, did radio commercials, sold all the tickets.
It was a huge success until Flotsam and Jetsam showed up (they were the headliner) 30 min. before they were to go on
with no gear, and proceeded to talk smack about all the other bands. They played by borrowing all my bands gear, (they brought guitars only)
convinced the promoter to give them all the cash, then took off to do a tour in Japan. Promoter got a broken nose and never promoted again
in this city.
Opening for Fear factory was completely the opposite, but that was in a larger venue about 200 miles away. They treated us great. I was kind "meh"
about their music till then, but I came around after that experience and listen to them all the time now.

Yes they are great at the bar chord, its all they use- they are so good at it.
I don't understand all the hoopla about Five finger Death Punch. Those guys are actually great musicians,
they should kick their producer's to the curb and write some better stuff.
I can't handle the "wa wa wa wa girls raaaaaawr im being tough for a second! wa wa wa wa girls"
That, and they butchered Bad Company.
-
Hmmmm.... 10...
Rainer Maria
the Velvet Underground
Bob Dylan
Snowing
American Football
Modest Mouse
the Beatles
Built to Spill
Neutral Milk Hotel
My Bloody Valentine
Jeez, that's 10 already :lol
Metal's harder... Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are the only two metal bands that I guess I can really say I still really like anymore... listen to some other metal music here and there but not super into any of it
-

They were local to NOLA. I think I may have seen em at the Dixie Tavern, not 100% on that though, since that time frame was kind of a blur.
We made quick decision to go once we saw a flier. We each prolly only had 10 bucks on us and a bottle of whiskey. The dude I was hangin out with
was a few years older and was more familiar with the area and music scene than I was, since I had already been living in AZ since I was 10. Luckily we
saw a Gulfport native at the show and got a ride straight back, since we were very sauced.
Back here in Tucson AZ, Acid Bath pretty much has a cult following amongst the local music scene.

Yes Dying Fetus and Mayhem are amazing live.
But still, nothing comes close to Gwar.

They all should be buried in a hole so deep that it would take a week of falling down it before they hit bottom.
These guys are pretty good, however...

I've gone through a number of musical phases in my life. As a teen/high-schooler I was very much into grunge rock, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were by far my favorites, but I also liked Alice in Chains, Nirvana, etc.
By college I had gotten into classic rock and many of the names that have appeared in this list already, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, Hendrix, etc.
Nowadays most of the music I listen to is a little off the beaten path, which I can't recommend enough that people explore. There is a lot of really good music being written by guys, gals, and bands and because they play smaller venues they tour more, tickets are cheaper, and they are far more accessible.
About a year ago I went to the record release party for a San Francisco musician, Chuck Prophet. People showed up piled in a bus and did a tour through SF at night drinking Southern Comfort from the liquor store in Haight Ashbury that Janis Joplin used to frequent.

That's my over Chuck's right shoulder caught mid sneeze, we ended the night with performance of the new record.

Another one is Alejandro Escovedo out of Austin Texas, Alejandro came up in punk music, opened for the Sex Pistols, lived at the Chelsey Hotel in NY while Sid and Nancy were there and had a few different bands before striking out on his own.

He recently reformed one of his old bands, the True Believers. Once described as a marching army of guitars, I think they were one of the best rock bands of the late 80's. It's a shame they never gained more notoriety.

I've been doing a "musical journey of discovery" by simply picking a member of a band I like at random and checking out any bands in which he or she has participated and persuing the threads from there.
The drummer for "Wrathchild America" took me from "souls at zero" to "snot" to "amen" to "candlebox" to "godsmack" to "another animal" to "vanilla ice" and I ended up at "ugly kid joe" doing an brand new song live on a brazilian tv show "unplugged".

It's pretty amazing where wikipedia and youtube can take you and doubly interesting when people pop up where you would least expect them.

Last.fm is a very very very very cool website/service that tracks all of what you listen to with media players (itunes, winamp, foobar, spotify, probably pandora...) and then can make you very detailed /accurate recommendations of what you might like. Also an extremely detailed database of everything (it's user maintained so it's pretty much literally everything). Also there are lots of cool apps and programs so that you can see what you listen to represented in all sorts of different ways. There's a social media aspect to it too (i mean that's even probably the primary purpose) but I don't really use it.

Being raised on the other side from heavy metal, my top 10 list is as follows.
I cant believe I just now found this thread. :furious
1. The Beatles
2. Aerosmith
3. Led Zeppelin
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd
5. Guns N Roses
6. Pink Floyd
7. The Doors
8. The Who
9. Metallica
10. ZZ Top
I also have an opinion of Metallica that tends to fly in the face of the trend of this thread. Personally, I think Load and Re Load are 2 of their best albums. We can all agree that St. Anger sucks, but I think that the black album, Load and Re Load was their best run.
