Title: Flame Thrower Tanks
Post by: wrench on May 19, 2013, 02:00:07 PM
Would like to request some flame thrower tanks in AH. Like Flammpanzer II or III, LVT4, and M4A3R3 Zippo (Sherman). Wouldn't this be awesome and you could make them from existing models too.

thank you,
wrench

and what good would they do?  Does fire in itself deliver damage to OBJ's?  I understand the wish, but I think HTC could (and will) put their time and efforts in to adding more viable gv's and aircraft, and maybe tweaking the role of troops.   :aok

it would be cool if you could dose a chuted pilot who then hears the burning sound before he dies.

LVT(A)-4 Ronson: (1944) With full tracks, some armor, and a turret, arguably the Landing Vehicle Tracked was a swimming light tank; this was a fire support version with M8 Howitzer Motor Carriage turret but the 75 mm howitzer replaced with the Canadian Ronson flamethrower.

and NAPALM canisters too!

admit it, you all want to see one go off  :-)

{and I don't see it being a frame rate hog...just a variant off the explosion sequence of standard bombs}

Yup, and then you can really get in amongst them!

(most because you have to, the ballistics on a 'nape can' are horrific)

:headscratch:     :airplane:   :bolt:

While the idea sounds great on paper, execution might be a different story. So the buildings we have now take damage gradually, what is the amount of damage a 5-10 second burst of fire from a LVT-4/M4 would cause?  To me it would be like trying to take down a building with the .50 on a jeep. Also every time fire would be shot, you send up a huge "Here I am" for the enemy.  So I'll say no thank you to flame throwing tanks.

sounds obscene in some obscure language...what are you wanting to do to him?

Several fun looking US, British & Soviet tank variants with cool BBQ features.  OH yeah, +1.

The problem with this wish though is that the system isn't ready for it.

Fire burns trees, we have titanium trees. (as of now)
Fire burns tanks, Drop tanks do nothing to tanks. (as of now)
Fire burns buildings, Drop Tanks do nothing to buildings (as of now)

The system needs a total rework, meaning the maps do also.

Water for submersive craft, instead of the ground like water we have now.

Trees will need to be re-coded so that they take damage, and maps redone so these things take effect.

While all the above I want, it would take HTC awhile to get that done, and I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Plus like Butcher said, FPS would go down really fast, unless the fire was coaded differently, but then you would hear complaints " the fire looks stupid, etc ".

I know quite a few don't believe this statement, but many players don't have the computer capacity for these things so it would cripple player gameplay.

So this might work out waay in the future, when HTC gets time to update things, and players might be able to upgrade their systems. But as of now, no, this wouldn't work out too well.   :bolt:

+1 For wish

Respectively,

Tinkles

For the trees being hit, they would just need to code so that any tree in the flame radius would turn from the standard tree to a burnt modelled tree.

that can still stop a 50 ton tank better than any brick wall...

I could imagine buildings taking damage similar to shooting them with guns. The troops burning feature would be wild to watch. You're sitting in the indestructible at a vehicle base and flame the running troops and maybe the troop carrier too!

Sounds like a good idea if the flames in the game could be improved upon.

I love the idea, but how are ya gonna get close enough to use it, without gettin wasted first..
Besides IIRC, flame is one of the most costly animations as far as framerate.. Like Smoke!
Better be ready to choke when ya Flame On!

Having a flame thrower tank in AH would be absolutely useless unless fire damage was modeled.
