T&A win in marketing....The louder a commercial is whether is volume or the volume of the picture the dumber the audience they are trying to appeal to.

These work just as well..

Or perhaps they're just trying to appeal to people with a sense of humor...

Those have been out for a few years now.

Just FYI the Zombie Max line is the exact same cartridge as the Critical Defense... only difference is a green insert instead of red.  It's just Hornady showing they have a sense of humor, and maybe cashing in on the current zombie phase.

Next time you go to the counter repeat the "damn that's sexy" then lick it....just make sure you have someone with a camera to capture their faces.

Stolen from another forum, and my thoughts exactly on actually carrying this ammo and having to use it.

Quote
Lawyer: "So, Mr Esau, did you think Mr Thug was a zombie?"
 Me: "No... I..."
Lawyer: "The product description specifically says this is only for zombies. Why did you shoot him with anti-zombie      ammo if you didn't think he was a zombie?"
Me: "It's what I had in the gun, it's the same as..."
Lawyer: "So you always walk around prepared for a zombie apocalypse? Do you believe zombies are real?"
Me: "No... look, I got them as a gag gift..."
Lawyer: "Oh, so killing people is funny?"

The disclaimer from hornady.

Disclaimer: Hornady® Zombie Max™ ammunition is NOT a toy (IT IS LIVE AMMUNITION), but is intended only to be used on…ZOMBIES, also known as the living dead, undead, etc. No human being, plant, animal, vegetable or mineral should ever be shot with Hornady® Zombie Max™ ammunition. Again, we repeat, Hornady® Zombie Max™ ammunition is for use on ZOMBIES ONLY, and that's not a nickname, phrase or cute way of referring to anybody, place or thing. When we say Zombies, we mean…ZOMBIES!

IMHO:  Don't carry ammo in your main carry unless it specifically states personal defense or protection.

If you've ever called Hornady for customer support you'd know they have an awesome sense of humor.  They figured out a lot of the people calling have something that broke, so it's best to make them laugh while they wait.   :)

There is still ammo shortage in the US? What could possibly cause a shortage over such a long time?

I honestly have no idea.  The little mom and pop shop I frequent has ammo, but not in anything like normal quantities.   I haven't even checked the big box stores because I haven't needed to.

the shop i'm getting my 1911 from is only selling 50 rounds max of 9mm, .40, .45 out the door. 100 rounds max of those of range use. they're only selling .22 for range use.

there is still a bit of it, but you can find deals......i got a couple cans of 30-06 garand food for about .65 a round, which is pretty good right now. .308win is going anywhere from .60 to 1.00+ per round.........

Our king/ president is threatening the right to bear arms and arm bears.

^This and after sandy hook everyone started to worry about Obama taking our liberties away.  So everyone and their mom is buying ammo to resale and for their personal stock.  When people got frustrated about not being able to shoot their new shiny guns they all started to reload.  So not only is ammo in short supply but all the components, presses and casting equipment is in very short supply.  This has lead me to start an ammo manufacturing business so that I can not only have a personal cache but supply the locals here with some at non gouging prices.  The saddest thing is...non shooters are buying and are able to sell it but as a company I can not sell one cartridge or even a single component that I manufacture unless I jump through hoops get a license and pay additional taxes.

What's causing the shortage? Hoarding, or production cuts?

There are people out there who know when the delivery trucks show up at different stores and they will literally wait for the trucks, and grab it up as soon as it hits the shelf, some are just hoarding it, others are reselling it online or at gun shows for ridiculous prices (gouging).  At one local retailer near here, they put out the ammo shipment every Wednesday when they open, and people start lining up hours before opening to get some.

As for production, it's the opposite of cuts.  I know a man who is the owner of a large bullet, and ammunition maker.  I talked to him last about a month ago, he tells me that his factory, (and every other manufacturer) are running at max capacity.  They simply can't make any more ammo with the facilities they now have, and they are weary about tooling up to build new facilities for what may just be a bubble.  However I am beginning to think that this may be the new norm, and if this type of demand keeps up long term, then most ammo makers will probably expand their production capabilities.

Bottom line is the ammo shortage is self-inflicted.  If every stopped buying for a month, the supply line would catch back up and the shelves would be full... that ain't gonna happen though.

There is also another variable that I've heard few people talk about.  That is new gun owners and shooters, with the current politics around guns many NEW have gotten into shooting as a kind of knee-jerk reaction.

So we have a combination of established and long time shooters hoarding, brand new shooters expanding the market size, and then the D-bags that are buying it up to resell at ridiculous prices to said new shooters who don't know any better.

It ain't just factory cartridges either, it's difficult to find some reloading supplies like primers and certain powders now as well.

The shelves are bare at the stores and when it does come in your are limited to small amounts. Law enforcement agencies are having trouble obtaining ammo and they get priority from certain retailers. You can find ammo online but at ridiculous prices. Things seem to be coming around but very slowly.

Sigh..

There is so much misinformation and conspiracy BS out there...  Read this THE GREAT DHS AMMUNITION STOCKPILE MYTH (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/04/04/The-Great-DHS-Ammunition-Stockpile-Myth) for some real facts.

I've already explained this if you care to read my post on the previous past of this thread.  The ammo "shortage" is entirely self inflicted, it's straight up supply and demand, the current political climate has lead to record demand both from hoarders, gougers/resellers, and new shooters.  Ammo manufacturers are operating at their maximum production, and it just isn't enough.  So it will remain this way until either;   A: demand drops off... or B: manufacturers expand their production facilities (which would take several months/years to do)

How the hell can you hoard if it's not available to hoard?

Again, ammo makers are making and shipping more ammo and ever before.  You're not seeing it in stores because people are literally waiting for the delivery trucks and grabbing it up before it even hits the shelves.  Stores will get a pallet of ammo in that used to last them for a month, and it will literally be gone in a few hours.  If you have a good relationship with any retailers talk to them and see if they will hold a box or two for you next time it comes in, because unless you're willing/able to stand in lines, or stalk delivery trucks, that may be the only way to get some.
