I have flight and gunnery down as best as I think I can get it in the practice arena. I finally go into the dueling arena, get airborne, pull up the radio, and then all of my flight controls go dead. Stick, rudder, engine. Couldn't even bail out. The plane basically slowly rolled over and did a nose plant. What'd I do wrong?
-
Did you check the control settings within Aces High? Were any joysticks listed? If there were, were any numbers moving beneath the joystick indicating movement?
I'd like to help you but I need more information.
-
Key commands won't register if the radio text box is open.
-
I was mouse flying. If I pull up the radio text box in flight, how do I close it to regain control?
-
I think I figured it out. If you pull up the radio, you have to do something with it, like type in a message. Can't just leave it open. And hitting return closes it, and you're back to flying.

Correct. You will find that it will be troublesome to fly with a mouse. Some people get good with them, but most don't. If you like flying games....and this one is the best :D getting a joystick from Walmart or other such chain store for $25 is a small investment for getting much more fun out of the game.
Welcome to Aces High! :aok

I haven't used a joystick yet (one is on order), but with the mouse you can crane your neck around and scan your environment and simultaneously control the plane with one hand, and step on the ball or drop tanks, etc, with the other. With a joystick, how do you crane your head around?

Most people use the hat switch on their joystick, some use Track IR and others (like me) use their number pad.

Ok, tried the dueling arena. Never saw them coming. Is there a trick with the map to zoom in to see who's in the area, or do you rely on your screen to sweep visually and look for specs. (I need to clean my screen, too.)
-
You can use insert and delete keys to zoom in or out the map, this can be used to get a general idea of friends and foes in the area. You will want to be looking around all the time,it's called situational awareness or SA for short.
You can use mouse look or the numpad if you fly by mouse but which ever way you choose be sure to use the modifier keys to get the extra views! the number 5 key looks up and you can use 5 plus 4 or 1 or any combination and you will be able to look up and back or up and forward, etc. the 0 key enables you to look down and can be used as a modifier also.
If you get a joystick it will be much easier to fly and use the views, hopefully you will be able to see them before they get you..... :devil
BTW,if you'd like some help I can be found in the training arena most weekday nights between 9pm and 11 pm eastern.

sounds like you may have turned off icons....I have this keyed to a button on my stick so I can't remember off hand the key command for toggling through this.

I'll try that out now.

I'll try that out now.
There are several icon selection choices , friendly only ,no icons and normal icon.
Be sure to set it to normal icons so you see both the green and red guys!
As I said I'm usually in the TA after 9pm,come and check it out and don't be afraid to ask for help! Most fly as Bishops at A1 so don't worry about sides just choose Bish and you'll spawn by default at A1. Check the roster to see if I'm on or another trainer in in the training arena.

If you want to keep the radio open while you fly, there is a way that you can do that. Open the Radio, then click on Roster (other options in the clipboard might work as well) then close It (roster). That will take the "focus" away from the radio while leaving it open. If you want to type in the radio text buffer after you do this, you will have to manually use the mouse to click in the text buffer to give the "focus" back to the radio. I like to keep the radio open while I fly to see who is on range and this method allows me to do that.
