Me and several other players that ive spoken to keep getting host connection lost or the white screen of death during login.
-
It is most likely a connection problem. Run ping plotter and post the results. More than likely your going to find that a hop or two is crap and this is most likely due to the storms/tornados that have run across the country this past week.
-
Also note, if you are on Road Runner, they have changed their backbone provider and continue to have routing problems as well.
Running a ping plot will should show the problem in bhn.net.
-
Just how does ping plot fix the problem ? What do you do after you run it . See , I am having the same problem .

It doesn't fix it, but it does help to ID the problem. If you run it and there is a bunch of "red" on it those would be your bad hops. Skuzzy can ping back to you and see what your return trip looks like as well (returns trips don't run through the same servers/hops). You can use the info when trying to get your ISP to work on the problem.

This good or bad?

That looks crappy to me, but what do I know. Ping this address 71.252.137.149 (game server address) and let it run for 10 minutes of so. If you keep getting the red bars it's not good. Im sure Skuzzy will be able to give you better details.
-
Ran it for 10 mins and this is what I have. What it means? I have no idea lol.

I'm no expert, but a bad first hope is usually indicative of a bad gateway. I used to have similar problems with my DSL modems when they started to break down.
edit: It looks like Verizon is making quite a few AH subscribers suffer lately.
-
It is not so much Verizon as the recent plague of extreme storms in this area of the U.S. which is causing so many problems all over the U.S.
Take this one, for example. The problem lies in XO's network. In particularly it is between XO and BHN.net. BHN.net has been having a lot of problems. They are the new backbone for Road Runner. Road Runner had been using Level3/. You could still see Level3 in the traces as recently as week ago, but those are going away quickly.
I have been filing notifications to BNH, but those are going to get low priority. Road Runner needs to address these problems directly with BHN. The pnly way that happens is for customers of Road Runner to register complaints about the problems.

What good is running ping plotter if it don't fix anything is what im getting at .

to find out where the problem is and maybe help you to get your isp to fix it if it's on their network or re-route you to get around the problem area. better than not having the info and sitting around wondering what's going on.
-
I think I see what your saying . Good luck on getting your network to reroute something . I can not even understand what the guy is saying at my internet provider
-
That is kind of how it strikes me as well. Sure, you can go to them and say pingplotter is showing this issue.
How do you even start to get them to pay attention to it when you're dealing with a script reader and his middle manager?
Wiley.

The more complaints the provider receives the more likely they will be to resolve the issue. The other option is to change providers to one with a better reputation. If a provider sees their clients leaving then they will be inclined to fix the problems or go away all together. Or you can do nothing at all and nothing will get fixed.

Getting the proper attention of the person you need to can be difficult.
The first thing you have to convince them of is the problem is not with your local connection (making sure it is not first). The problem lies in their network or at their network edge. You have to keep repeating that until they get it. You have to be persistent that first tier support cannot help with this problem. Keep repeating it.
You have to keep asking the person you are talking to if they can actually help with a problem which does not have anything to do with the "first mile" (i.e. your connection to them). You keep pushing them for an answer and when they finally admit they cannot help with that, then you press to talk to someone who can.
The job of first tier support is to get you off of the phone and convince you there is no problem.
The next problem you will run into is the ISP which will or cannot do anything about the problem. Check your contract with them. It will normally only cover your local connection to them. This means as long as you have a good connection to them, they have no responsibility to discuss anything else with you.
All that said. The state of the Internet is pretty bad right now due to all the damage done to the telecommunication infrastructure by horrid weather that continues to plague the U.S. In most cases, there is little anyone can do about the congestion problems as the infrastructure does its best to absorb data from the broken systems into the already over loaded working systems.
Right now, the best thing that could happen would be for Youtube, Netflix, and Hulu to shutdown for a couple of weeks to reduce the stress on the networks until they can be repaired.

So other words we are screwed . Guess I will have to cancel my account , errr .

I do not know that. Every ISP is different. I gave a very general and broad comment on how to approach ISP's when they push back, or if they ignore you.
WE (HTC) have no control over the Internet. We (HTC) cannot fix ISP's. We (HTC) cannot control Mother nature.
We do what we can to help. We report problems, as they are found and we try to help arm our clients with all the data they need to be able to discuss connection issues with their ISP's.
I am at a loss as to what else we could do.
-
Untill I learn to speak India nothing .
-
Having the same problems. I'm fine until I get to HTC.

Nothing wrong with hop #9. It will always show 100% packet loss as it does not honor the ICMP ECHO message.
Nothing wrong with that trace.
When I trace back to you, it looks pretty good as well.
Of course, that was at this very minute. If you are having connection issues and that trace was done instantly after being dumped from a "host connection lost" error, then you may have something else going on, not related to the path to/from the servers.
-
Well, the packet loss is gone and I was able to get online so whatever the hiccup was it's over. :salute

That is not surprising at all, given the state of the telecommunications network in the U.S., at the moment.

Skuzzy maybe that should be a Message of the Day thing when you log in to the game for a bit.... "Due to the recent storms across the US telecommunications are are in flux as repairs are made to damaged areas of the country yada yada yada...."

Got booted in FSO just last night , errrr . Guess I need to post mine and see if we can do anything .

Sometimes. something as simple as renewing your IP address might help.
A must do if you change ISP's.
Start-> all programs-> Accessories -> CMD
type ipconfig/release hit enter
type ipconfig/renew
exit
 Oz

uhh...if you're connected to a home router/gateway, that only changes the ip address being served by the router, not by the isp. if you want the ip to your modem (public facing ip address) changed, you have to power down the modem for a few minutes so the ip address gets released by your isp's dhcp servers, then power it back on.
