I wish troops would have to be real players. Would have to round up 10 players (or maybe lower it to 5), sit in M3 or C47, and use keyboard commands to run just like when you bail out of an aeroplane. :aok
Would create more teamwork, make protecting the goon/m3 more important, and be more fun. :)
That is my wish. :pray

No thank you. Why would people want to ride for 10 min flight to get strafed by the first LA7 or Spit16 to up off the field.

To chat, to get their buds to protect them. They should have F3 capability to look around too...and realism... to experience something similar to what the real guys experienced. :)
I would do it gladly. :aok

Minus, the terror, the flak burst, and the chance of dying. No video game should be compared real experience of war.

Certainly not close to real, but just like our Spitfires are simulations, our flying activities and tank battles and flak bursts are simulations, our troop/base takes could be more realistically simulated with real people.

Simply equipping the chute pilot with a rifle might be the easiest way for HTC to test simulated infantry.
For CM run arenas, terrain builders could add spawn points where the AC was penned in and the pilot would bail for an embarking point.
Some sort of scattered small rearm pad or other method of resupply would come in handy.

you need to be more careful what you put in your mouth, you would have fewer incidents of numb skull.

I do not like the sound of this

11 kills for one goon? I think I can see where that would go, as well. ;)

Considering the difficulty of finding ten live players willing to commit to the ride, I suggest reducing the number of live players to four for a base capture. Plus, give each participant a base capture score as extra incentive. So, the C-47 pilot or M3 driver and all the live players get the credit. Then let a Jeep carry two live troopers each, so that Jeeps get more action in the game.
I'm not sure how this would work with the normal AI troops. It would be frustrating to be controlling a live trooper, heading for the map room, when another C-47 happens to get there first and drops AI troops. I suppose that might just be the risk you take. I also realize that it would be extremely difficult for the defenders to spot and kill live troopers, considering that they can take cover and use bounding movements rather than just run blindly in a straight line for the map room. But of course, that would be another big incentive for people to use live troops.
I think that the defenders should be able to spawn up to four Jeeps from a point next to the map room, in order to provide a nominal base of fire against the attacking troopers, available more quickly than from the hangar. However, the attackers would have to have at least the M1A1 Thompson or M1 rifle as I don't see the currently modeled 1911 being very effective against Jeeps.

Thanks, I'm glad you like my ideas. What do you think about eliminating AI troops entirely? Would it really be so hard for the attackers to find four people willing to take on the task? After all, it's quite common to see several cooperating troop vehicles going after a single town. I think the greatest pushback against it would be people unwilling to put their lives in someone else's hands, as in sitting helpless in the back of the vehicle until the pilot/driver gives the order to dismount. I suppose this would require saddling up with a trustworthy TC, not a noob who will drive you and your buddies directly into the nearest gun or Wirb.
The more I think about this, the more I like it. The decision of when to release the troops, especially for ground vehicles, would add a fun element to the game. Release them too early, and they have too much ground to cover. Release them too late, and the entire vehicle might get nailed first. Interesting...

I wouldn't task HT with making too much of a fundamental change to the system. Troop drones fill this function quite nicely. If anything, I'd expand the AI functionality (as stated elsewhere). Riding in goons or M3s (or even jeeps) and running into a map room are precisely the mundane experiences I would rather free the live player from doing.

I agree... Get rid of the fake AI troops. :aok

Good luck with this. :lol :aok

Hey, it's just some brainstorming. I would rather see HTC's limited resources used to update/add aircraft. I'm just glad we have a reasonably realistic flight model and fun stuff to do with it. Changes to the troops system would be nice, but certainly not a priority.
-
Actually, changes to AI troop roles would make a huge difference in the dynamics of the game.
I believe it would make it much more interesting for the ground and capture elements. Eliminating
the AI troops entirely and trying to turn this game into World War II online ... not so much.

Only if I can get a Calvary horse to fearlessly charge a king tiger

you must be polish at heart...(total myth but funny to consider)
-
How about allowing a chuted pilot to take the place of a troop?
I doubt you would find 10 guys who will willingly chute out over a town to take a field since most are motivated by score and can't be bothered to even protect inbound troops.
-
offer them the chance to get perk points in the category of their choice and you will get squeakers begging to jump...
-
Then don't make it worth it to do it.
If someone strafed one troop and you are willing to sacrifice a death to the enemy, why not be able to count as one troop.

you're just being ornery now aren't you...
