Title: That one other thing I hate
Post by: eagl on May 29, 2013, 01:48:41 AM
One more thing I hate - some guy with my same name just bought a phone and used my email address, or his address got mis-typed and my addy ended up on his account.  It is almost as annoying as the kids who kept using my email address for xbox registrations, the weirdos who signed up for dating services with my email address, the kid who used my email address to sign up for the online gambling account, and whoever it is that tried to link my email address to their facebook account THREE TIMES this weekend.

I have more clues this time...  Apparently, as far as I can tell (I might be wrong), he is "Sean R. Long" in Greeley, CO.  And he has a new AT&T phone.  He apparently has a linkedin account and works at Walgreens.  He likes heavy metal music, and at one time he was active online on myspace, youtube, twitter, etc., but a couple of years ago he probably grew up, got a job, and quit updating those pages.  His Mom's name may be Terri, according to spokeo.  He REALLY needs to get my email address off of his phone account before I get really curious and/or annoyed.

BTW he got a nokia 920.  Seems like a nice gadget but I'm not really into MS Windows phones.

Anyone else like to have a little fun with bogus online accounts that use your email address?  Anytime my email addy is used for a social or dating website, I immediately update the profile to a married gay black overweight woman looking for casual "encounters", change the password to something random, then change the email address to me@here.com which disassociates me from the account completely.  Those accounts will be like that FOREVER :)

My phone number evidently is the same as a Sears service number.  I quite often get phone calls (usually from Florida, 904 area code - Alaska is 907) from people looking for Sears.  The reactions I get when I tell them they've reached a sailboat off the coast of Alaska are humorous.

Locals who use Google to find demolition companies often get my phone number in error.

I used to get calls on my land line, back when I had one, for a seafood place in town.  Usually people wanting to know if they needed a reservation.  One time I answer the phone and this guy just immediately asks, with no prelim stuff "Yeah, do you have crabs?"

I said, "No, but I have this rash that won't go away..."

And then he hung up on me.

Thanks for the inspiration Madda.

Years ago my dads land line was one digit off from a local radio stations contest line.  At first he was going to change his number, then said " let's have some fun".  Every time he answered the phone and was asked " am I caller #?" He would say they were and tell them to come to the radio station to claim their concert tickets, prize packs, etc.  This went on for several months, then one day the calls stopped.  It seemed the radio station ended up changing their contest line number  :lol

It is nice to have a unique name, which to the best of my knowledge I do.

Wasn't as nice growing up though.

You were playing AH/CK/WB before 1995?  I think Grayeagle was the only well known player using "eagle" before I showed up...

I dueled for the game ident only once, can't remember if it was in WB or AH though.

agreed, the only worse thing is when they ask you "what were your parents thinking?"
