Title: Discovery!
Post by: Zacherof on June 03, 2013, 07:01:08 PM
Came across my grand fathers journal from when he served on
CV-6(Enterprise) in WW2. Wanted to know if you fine gents would like me to share the interesting things he had written down. He was a BM 2nd class btw.

not sure but it's a logical guess. He's partly the reason I enlisted I. That branch

Sea is alot calmer and the weather is getting hotter all the time. We are putting into pearl harbour sometime tommorow

Nov. 22, 1943
At sea. Still hot as before. We are still cruising around makim island. We bombed the northern island because there were still a few japs there. We could see piers around noon.

We got word that the japs were sending down submarines. We determined the location of 6 of them. The location of the nearest one about 100 miles away. What we are waiting for is for the jap fleet to come out. If they do, somebody is going to catch hell.

We are going out to refuel to refuel tommorow for we are out of aviation gas. We are also out of tiers for our fighters

At sea, still hot. We are now operating between Tarawa and makim island now, atleast for a while. We sent up 4 F-6f's and 2 tbf's at 0230 this morning to see if we could intercept the jap bombers when they came down but they didn't show up. At 1300 this noon we went up into D.Q? Because we had about 30-40 bogies on the screen. We sent up all of our fighters to get them but the Lexington and Yorktown fighters tally-hoed before we did. Haven't heard how they come out yet during the last 6 day battle for giller grump? The only damage we suffered was that the independence caught a fish and a few aircraft which wouldn't be a dozen??
