There aren't a lot of things that bother me in came, yes there are those moments when I call BS on something, but that usually passes in about 5 minutes or so.
There are only two things that actually bug me in game:
1) Shooting planes that are landing. This is a sign that you clearly have no skill to engage an enemy in a fight so you resort to killing him while he is at his most vulnerable. I will shoot at a landing plane only under certain circumstances. The most profound being a non-perked buff landing, I will often shoot the drones but leave the lead aircraft. All of the other situations are circumstantial so I'm not going to bother covering them.
Also, I consider vulching a viable tactic so it is not included.
2) This bugs me more than number 1, but happens less often. Towering in a perked tank at the first sign of danger. If you come out in a perked tank for a battle, don't sit on the pavement and tower as soon as I turret you, or as soon as you hear a bomb coming in. YOU knew the risks when you chose to drive your tank out, you should face the consequence of your actions.
If I had my way, number two would be fixed by implementing a better combat system for tanks.
a) A tower time limit. hitting End Sortie or .ef will cause a 5 second delay before you are actually towered.
b) If an enemy tank shoots you, he has engaged you. You MUST kill him (or have someone else kill him) in order to tower. If you tower while he is still alive, it counts as a death even if you are stopped on tarmac and the kill is given to the enemy who engaged you (if multiples engaged then it falls back to the default system).

so a plane taking off which cannot defend itself is ok but killing one that is landing and cannot defend itself bad? is that a double standard?
and why is it that it's ok to shoot down the drones of a landing plane but not the lead bomber? another double standard?
because myself I dont consider killing landing planes a bad thing, after all i do it to help them up their next plane faster.
and the funniest thing is that you are ok with vulching.

Ill vulch you landing and smack you silly in a turn fight. So you are wrong there. And Ill also tower out on a pad just to see you come to the boards and cry like a little......girl.

I understand the OP's feelings, he does have a point regarding the system for using tanks, it is flawed to a certain degree. There is a reason King Tigers (or other perk tanks) are not see %95 but sitting on top of concrete defending. If there was a concrete pad out at the gv spawn point we'd see more of them being used in the field.
His ideas are not all that far fetched, really.
The getting vulched on landing is part of the game. Yeah, it is cheap but we've all done it and we've all had it done to us.

it owes to the way the spawns work....nearly ALL the spawns go directly to SOME base, so in orderto participate in a tank battle, you have to either spawn to a base, and ultimately battle Tiger2's sitting on the concrete, 'defending' their bases, else stare at the map, waiting for a base to flash, sans darbar, and see what's there. Spawns which meet in the middle of no where are the stuff of which our Kursk re-enactments are made

Well then don't land at of hot field and if you are obviously your situation awareness sucks.

First, I am guilty of all of theses offenses. I love driving a Wirble, Ostie, or tank with HE to an enemy field to shoot planes landing and taking off. I get pissed when they bomb me LOL, but if ords are not down it is my fault for getting near an airfield. I also kill Heavy tanks on a regular basis because I have learned you have to find a position to hide where your shot hits them in the flank. They blow up. Sometimes it takes patience to find the right location.
No easy solution for HTC for sure. But in the meantime there are a few things you could do to avoid frustrating situations. If you are landing a bomber or fighter and still have fuel------>,land at a non-flashing field, preferably one with radar still up. You will have better odds for a successful landing.
As far as the highly perked tanks------->find a good spot where you are close enough and have cover. After you kill a couple, they come out in a cheaper tank (every time). :) There is a link on the main web page for player stats. You can see how many perked tanks you have killed. It is a challenge, but that is part of the fun.
Good luck.
:salute

actually i'm marvelling at your use of the word pansy, which does indeed sound idiotic when i attempt to verbalize it in the manner you've attempted to use it in written form. what you call "pansyesque game play" is an indication that you consider the (and i use the term very loosely) skills needed to be a cartoon hero are worthy of rock stardom like notoriety. if it is indeed a game to you, then whatever other people do in their efforts to prevent someone as heroic as yourself from blowing up their cartoons, shouldn't be a bother to you because it is, after all, just a game.

it don't bother me at all......I think it is quite funny people play a combat game to run away......and avoid combat.....
I would use another word but that would break the rules....so I choose "pansy" because it sounds very close to the word I want to use.....
I see what I have said offends/effects/insults you.......

no Ink, you misunderstand. i'm simply pointing out that your pansy remarks illustrate your apparent 1337 attitude which contadicts what you claim doesn't bother you. in a video game if something really doesn't bother you then such an attitude is nothing more than cyber chest thumping...like what one would find in a multiplayer game rife with 13 year olds.
i could honestly care less one way or the other. to me this is just a time killing hobby that i enjoy and i'm generally fine with whatever happens other than someone acting like their video game skills have any real meaning.

I don't think there is anything wrong with shooting down a plane that is trying to land. I don't do it often not because some consider it cowardly but because I don't want to take the risk of the field acks damaging my plane or shooting me down. One of my more enjoyable and memorable kills was a plane that I had seriously damaged in a fight that tried to escape and run to his base. I pulled along aside of him and flew escort, giving him the hope that I was going to show 'honor' and let him land his obviously seriously damaged and crippled plane. As he lowered the gears and lined up one the runway, I slipped in behind him and shot him down as he made his landing approach.

There aren't a lot of things that bother me in came, yes there are those moments when I call BS on something, but that usually passes in about 5 minutes or so.
There are only two things that actually bug me in game:
1) Shooting planes that are landing. This is a sign that you clearly have no skill to engage an enemy in a fight so you resort to killing him while he is at his most vulnerable.
...
Or it's a sign that you want to get him to re-up with all that now pent up emotion seeking revenge and often producing a very good fight. Just don't vulch him on takeoff unless he's not at the boiling point yet. Once he's PMing you, then you know it's time to let him get co-E or even higher E and then pwn him again. :ahand
Man, those are some sweet fights and most rewarding if you enjoy PMs. :devil

As he lowered the gears and lined up one the runway, I slipped in behind him and shot him down as he made his landing approach.
ack-ack
In this one brief glimmer of a moment, I will openly admit that you :rock

I haven't been able to bring myself to fly lately, cause I'm too busy cowering under my computer table. This game is really scary. I just know that even though I haven't died yet, despite flying online sims since 1996, that odds are I will die someday!
Er...well...if I have a heart attack and fall out of my chair :)
Proud of being a cartoon coward!
-
Damn... what have I done...
I hadn't intended on replying to this but when it reaches 5 pages in 12 hours, it's peaked my interest.
To start, I like some of the posts. They made me giggle and now I feel better (was expecting more Monty Python).
The tanks sitting on tarmac bugs me most, they can face their death like a man (or women if it's proper). I will spawn a Tiger II into a base and drive for 20 minutes just to kill a couple of perk tanks on the field even when I know that I will never break even on the perks. Why? Because I've accepted the fact that there are other players who are better than me, and I don't mind getting killed by them.
Now onto the airplanes issue, while this bugs me I've accepted that it's always going to happen and there is nothing I can do about it. Yes, I will call them out on 200 and call them cowards but beyond that it's not much worth the effort. I have actually come across a few people that won't shoot landing planes. It doesn't happen as much as I would like to see it though.
The difference between vulching uppers and vulching "downers" is that vulching an upper is for tactical suppression. I don't want planes taking off from the base I'm trying to take and killing the troops I've worked hard to get in there. Shooting a landing plane in real life still serves a tactical advantage, you are taking that plane (and most likely the pilot) out of action for good. With our cartoon planes that we can grab another of without penalty, shooting a landing plane just makes you a dick.
What I will shoot when landing:
1) A set of buffs- just the drones, they are usually on the runway anyway. This has only happened three times in the last three years (all happened in the same tour). I leave the main aircraft so that he can land his damage, however impressive or pathetic it may be.
2) If a plane lands and taxies to the rearm pad, I will kill him. He should have towered when he had the chance.
3) If I spawn out of the VH in a perked tank for defense and the base is taken right after words. Might as well sit at the end of the runway and fight like hell until I'm killed. This has happened twice since I started playing.
4) Following an enemy who was shooting friendlies trying to land back to his own base just to kill him when he tries to land. I've gotten the chance to do this once, the PMs of hatred because he didn't get to land his his twenty something kills made him mad (dying to a noob didn't help I'm sure).
5) Anyone participating in a bishop B-38 raid. Because they deserve it, no other reason. This is a new one that I started just today, I'm sticking with it.

#1 - Don't land at a field that has red planes all over it.
#2 - Kill all the Vehicle Hangers with bombers, clean up with heavy fighters (especially King Tigers sitting on concrete defending), take the base...
Problems solved!!!

What usually pisses me off is when you manage to get some kills and then limp home with severe damage after a good knife fight with someone... A LA7 noob with 0.01 k/d screams in and vulches you just before getting to land.

If its red, it must be dead :airplane: I just hate when people hide in the ack all day. :furious

:rofl
calling someone a pansy because they run from combat in a game designed for combat....is not saying I am leet....how the hell do you get that? are you seriously this retarded? or is your ego that sensitive?
you obviously didnt like what I said....so I hit the nail right on the head with your play style....and you took offense....
truth hurt change your reality.....ether way....I know now you are in the pansy category :rofl.....
so why not grow a pair?????
why do you run from combat in a combat game?????
you obviously are the one who has an ego...and dieing ingame will crush that....... :rofl
afraid to die a cartoon death oh my word..... :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
have fun with that.....
and anytime...the DA is that way-------------> if ya wanna show me up..... :rofl
lmao, ok "grow a pair" :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl in a video game even. i grew a pair a long time ago getting shot at for real, not in a video game. obviously, your accomplishments in this video game gives you some sense of superiority that is lacking somewhere else so, if shooting my cartoon plane down because you can stir a computer joystick better than me helps you feel better, no problem, go for it. i don't have the same disability. if someone wants to fly their cartoon plane into friendly ack to avoid getting shot down, rather than call them names, i'll follow and try to shoot them down before my cartoon plane gets blown up. if they want to try and fly away, rather than sit at my computer feeling smug about their lack of video game skills and call them pansy, i'll do what i can to force a dogfight, or find another cartoon plane to engage. if i happen to get lucky and land my cartoon plane with some wins to my credit, great, but i'm not the sort to be upset when that doesn't happen.

Guys...Guys... Take a step back as you both are good dudes. Ink, I've known him for almost since he entered AH and I can tell you that the man has always had a certain code of honor and can carry it to extremes in AH but he does practice what he preaches! You Gyrene, have shown your own code of honor by serving on the battlefield in real life and I thank you for your service!. Back in Ink's early days he was a member of a large mega-squad that used to be considered the most vile and cruel and ruination of the game because when we had squad night, we took the map. Well Ink was not ever a bomb**** and he and I would argue against the leadership to defend what we took and it was usually he and I that would end up defending what base we took instead of proceeding on and horded the next target. You two are probably more alike than either of you would like to admit. I do know that INK has a very large family that he constantly talks about them and I know that if I had that many kids, well I'd be a nutzoid! I think that for him and a lot of us, this game is our release from the pressures of life in the real world and sometimes our two worlds can become blurred. I just think that you both should take a step back.
All the Best...
