Summing this stuff up: my new He-111's just like my Ju-88's before... I get blasted by 5inch every time.
My guess is fire the torpedoes just before the auto ack machine guns start taking us apart! No chance with 5 inchers over there!
Coming in under 200mph, under 200ft:
Only once of a couple of tries did even one of my planes of a 3-set survive to where the auto ack guns began firing at me!
Dropped both, turned hard, got killed seconds later! Boo! :cry
Dam the 5 inch guns! Why not just have these at bases? Would definitely fix any vulching probems!
How the heck to get the 'torpedo a ship' achievement!
Yeah I know, I need to go to the training arena and get certified! Still, take 5inch out please!

You have to sneak in without being seen, coordinate with other teammates so that the 5" gunner might not be shooting at you, or just be lucky that the 5" guns are not being manned or are destroyed.
When you approach a fleet, try to come in on the side that is away from the action.. Far higher likelihood of not being seen.
Good luck!

Much easier to get that torpedo shot on a CV with nobody home. Same with a bunch of other achievements.
I've seen a couple of players that have 3 stars already. Wouldn't be surprised if they were piling up achievements in the Early/Mid war arenas. :bolt: :bolt:

so you want to remove the destroyers main defensive weapons just so you can make a torpedo run with planes...so much sadness. surprised you're not whining to have all the guns removed or disabled.
try knocking the radar out first, then go in 100ft off the deck at 150mph...you won't have to worry about anything but the small guns chewing you to shreds as soon as you get within drop range.

Wasn't there a restriction on how low the 5" guns could be depressed which made them ineffective against torpedo planes?
Either way, IIRC those guns are modeled on late-war American guns, which had pretty good proximity fuses. The barrage those things could put up were a NIGHTMARE to get through even for large-scale attack groups, and you're going in with far fewer aircraft. So yeah, being anywhere in range is going to be pretty suicidal with an alert and remotely accurate gunner.

Try a down the throat shot - get out in front of the CV group, come in low (40 ft) directly at the bow of the CV. You can use F3 to line it up with the tail of your aircraft. Get in as close as possible then cut the torps loose - at the speed of the torp + speed of the CV, they don't have enough time to avoid. Also - only the bow 5" guns of the cruiser are really in a position to shoot at you - the CV 5" guns have a tougher time shooting right over the cruiser at you.
Give it a try.

Nope. The 5"/38 caliber gun which is the 5" gun on the CV fleet was able to be depressed -15° to engage low flying planes or water surface targets.

I think the 5 inch are ridiculous last time I was on they had a cv off the coast and a guy was camping the field with it. All the people who complain about the hord but t he hord is the only way to deal with crap like that
