Title: WW1 UPGRADE LONG OVERDUE
Post by: Grayclif on June 12, 2013, 08:25:48 AM
Dear HTC,

I know there are many of us who would like to see a very large and comprehensive upgrade of the WW1 arena. It is long overdue. May I suggest the following:

1.) Add more WW1 planes such as the Eindecker, Morane Saulnier, Sopwith Triplane, Se5A, Neuport 17, Sopwith Pup, Pfalz, and the British pusher plane (name escapes me at the moment)
2.) Please include actual maps and scenarios (base captures) which will include the need for bombers and WW1 vehicles.

If these changes go unheard, we will all be forced to continue flying Rise of Flight. And that isn't much fun when all you have is a 5 year old laptop. (My general frame rate in MA is 4-9) You can imagine how it is in Rise of Flight. (1-4 fpm)

Sincerely,

The Grayclif

I could play this game on an 1500MHz 1st series Pentium4, 512MB RAM and a Geforce2 MX400 in 2010. Got steady 20+ fps and didnt even had to minimize all my settings.

Didnt know that youre as much of an awesome IT guru too that you made a hairdryer to run AH  :aok

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. You would think that even being new in 2009, it would run 20+ fpm even on the busiest of maps with 400 people in the arena. I can get 20 fpm in the early war, mid war and DA and ww1.

Either way,

I wish for an upgraded WW1 arena. 4 planes and no scenarios are getting boring. That is all.

well due to the vagueness of the op, I'm assuming you want Gotha bombers, zepplins, sopwitj dolphins, spars, nieuports. Am I right?

That's almost sig worthy :rofl

They should start adding more planes to ww1. At least that much. Same 4 planes for how many years now? No one goes there because there are only 4 planes to fly.

and just think, if they wouldn't have spent the time on those, we could have had 4 new ww2 planes instead.

Grayclif, the LWMA is what keep
HTC moving. Thus it takes priority.

Now more planes in WW1 would be fun, but not at the exspense if the MA.

I say no to adding any aircraft for the world war one arena.

Here's why -

There is absolutely little interest in it, I missed the opening debute in which some say there were over 100 in the WW1 arena, the most I've ever seen was 5 on a friday night a few weeks ago, and even then 3 were AFK. Adding more planes isn't going to solve this - look at Early War, lately there's been a rash of early birds and no more interest then the usual perk farmers. If I want to play a WW1 game I play Rise of Flight.

I'd love to see AI pilots in the WW1 arena with a campaign for aces high - if real pilots join they get an appropriate spot in the flight and fly against possibly either AI or real pilots, Make it a campaign, with medals and rank.

Reason I say no is Aces high is a World War two game, Rise of flight is a World war one game - I much rather have Aces expand more plane sets, before committing to a project that has little interest right now. Maybe in the future.

Butcher, would you change your name to Moron? Or at least consider it?

Why do you think there is never anyone in the WW1 arena? Could it be because there have been only 4 planes to choose from for the last 27 years? Or perhaps the lack of scenarios (IE base captures, missions, bombing or tanking)

*sigh*

Maybe I've got it wrong, but wasn't the WW1 arena just supposed to be a cool little "test arena" for addons to the main arena?
Which would explain why they haven't dropped alot of resources into it.

Of course it does provide an area for the little kids to throw tantrums without disturbing the rest of us  :devil

You flew the latter in AHII when? It was fun in AW. Realizing, of course, that it's dogfighting
on steroids. Still guns on. No guided missiles.  :aok

Bingo! You think it's hard to get a firing solution on a jinking target at 300 ias? Try doubling that.  :devil

Difficulty in the KW arena in AW wasn't increased by the magnitude you're suggesting. If anything,
'jinking' was less pronounced at higher speeds. I do remember a lot of dedicated KW RR players
stopped playing that arena much when it went FR. It was the blackouts, spins and stalls. I don't
know if Kesmai ever modeled g-suits accurately or not.

A FF stick made a huge difference. Without one you were giving inputs the aircraft would never have allowed in reality unless you were The Hulk, especially in the MiG. AW also didn't have the radar sight in the F86, if I recall correctly. Not saying AW is the best example for a Korea sim, but it's the best I've played. That 2nd Gen era seems to be skipped over by everyone and it was the pinnacle of gunned dogfighting.

Jets never provide a really fun experience unless they are dumbed down, like in the battlefield games; otherwise they are just too fast and freaky for the kind of aircombat most would enjoy.

That's why WW1 air combat stuff is actually *the* most fun for all; because there are only slight differences between planes and on the whole, the experience seems more balanced. But it certainly lacks the "cool" factor that ww2 has (which is why it has a hard time attracting the youth).

Jets - too cool, not enough combat.
Biplanes - not cool enough, too much combat.

Au contraire, mon frere. We're talking Korea. Not Vietnam. Not Splashing Libyan jets with F-14s.
The art of dog-fighting was still practiced, usually by pilots who learned it in the previous war.
Gun solutions.

If you want WW1 just play Rise of Flight, it's free and it's got decent graphics

HTC should focus on keeping AH the best online WW2 flight sim imo

Question to Lusche.

Would it be possible to find out how many players have been in the WWII arena as a whole since it's creation? Then compare that to the other arenas?    To see how much usage each arena gets, and then to see if the WWI arena is popular or not.   :P

Just my thoughts.

there was about 300 players in ww1 arena the first few weeks.  after a couple of months there were only a few at any one time that I have seen.

WWI arena should be relegated to custom arenas only, as should the DA/MW/EW and possibly scenarios (You can still run scenarios quite well without having them in the arena list all the time).
