I always did wonder why in interviews or real videos of aircraft they talked about all of these aircraft having these terrific 'Self sealing fuel tanks' but in AH the fuel in any plane just keeps on leakin' ... :headscratch:

it helped minimize leaks not stop them completely.

well, not exactly...at least with .50 cal tests

although a lot of times in ah, you're not just getting hit with .50 cal.

The gun looked like a .30 cal not a .50. The shell on the other hand looked like a 50.  A little fishy.

Self sealing only works with fairly clean and round punctures. Anything  over a certain size or an oblong shape is not likely to seal.

that did look like a .30 browning didn't it...but if you stop the vid at exactly 1:06 you will see a casing eject and it looks like a .50 casing.

hit many wing tanks in bombers with a quick burst and all I got was fuel leaking :furious
I think bombers have it the best
