I'd like to see the side switch time lowered to 2 hours. When there has been an imbalance on sides anyone more, I and maybe others just log off. Typically I end up playing WoT. With the current 12hr rule, its limiting the fun for many, who enjoy winging with others, being on the low ENY side, or looking for a good fight.
I know there are those evil nasty spiz types, but 12hrs, 24hr, or 48hrs won't stop those evil spiz from just PMing another player.

+100000000000
and with the declining numbers, to not lower the side switch time will only make even more people stop playing.. who wants to switch sides at 2PM and log on at midnight that same night and still be stuck on the side without a fight?
2 hours would work :aok

Yes please :aok

Agreed. I would go further and make it one hour, even.

1 or 2 hours please! Heck, I'd love to see it even at 6 hours! :pray

YES PLEASE!!

I wish to add that, although I do share the same emotions as others on this topic: Reducing the faction loyalty altogether might be good for the game, but we need to flesh this out more.
It is something, and good, if I never want to have to see someone apologise for going another side again, because if we all can/are able to do it easily, then it won't be much of a "crime" anymore. This is a game; not exactly a question of morality or ethics or social design (gaming does fall under gambling though, even if it is reduced by associating the attempt at realistic design simulation).
But to have a full picture, we have to consider the other possibilities: This might be bad for the current state of the game; where people are feeling insecure about the future of the game with other competitors around and the disillusion of the older players weighing down upon the new players at times. Maybe faction loyalty is what is keeping all of this together?
I would instinctually come to the same conclusion as my first impression, that removing the limit almost altogether is good for the game, but not just because of the removal/lowering of faction loyalty, but because I have hope that removing limitations in a timely manner can help this game grow again without the need for advertising (that may be just a result of my own enthusiasm for the genre and not shared by others). HTC have a much clearer picture of what is keeping the seams together of course, then I or anyone else does, but what do you guys think?

I could see 6 hours, but not 2.

Two hours is plenty. +1 :aok

Change the side switching process. Only allow side switching to balance sides. If all sides are within 10% of each other, no switching is allowed. Side switching options to chose country should be removed. Replace country selection with one button, select to balance sides button. When a player wants to switch to help balance sides, the player selects that Balance Sides Button. If the player is on a high number side that player is switched onto the side with the lowest numbers. If the player is on a low number side, nothing happens. Players that don't want to change sides, just don't select the Balance side button. No player choses the side, the system does. No time limit as to how often the Balance side button is selected.

this seems like it would work...what sux is many times I have seen the lower numbered side with the biggest hoard...then I would switch to fight that hoard..... :bhead
the only thing about the actual game I dislike is the 12 hr rule.

ok hard to type using a phone.
what exactly is the difference between a 12 hour and a 6 hour switch time. do you really play the game that many hours a day that it makes a difference to you? reason I ask is because I'll be lucky if I get 6 hours a week with work, volunteer and family time.
so if you log in switch and tell your buddies, "hey I'll join you today in about 5 hours or so" then more power to you if you have the time.
then again if you are like most of us that dont have 6 hours to wait, then might as well stay 12 hours since it wont make a difference. it's like looking at a car and see the price tag of $500,000 and asking for it to be lowered to $250,000. what is the point we still cant afford it.

Huh. Do you belong to s squad that isn't stuck to one chess piece bit likes flying together even when it's not squad or event night?
-
You know, it was when the population increased, is why we asked and begged for the time to be upped in the first place. Switching back then, to the winning/losing side (mostly winning) made things a little bit awkward and now that the population/activity is going back to the levels before we asked for that, maybe it is time It was reverted back to the old ways (easy switching). If the arena itself would moderate that based on player count, maybe we have a good solution?

do you belong to a squad that plays so many hours that you tell squadies, sure I'll join you in 5 hours for that mission. would you rather have a wait time 2 hours or 6.
for most players there wont be a difference between 6 and 12 hour switch time as most wont be around to come back in 6. 2 hours makes a difference maybe 3. 6 or 12 wont make a difference for 99% of the players.

Past 1 hour the game flow dynamic will change what you wanted to suddenly switch for. So 60 minutes or less is the dynamic that will have any impact on the individual player's outcome of the moment or the game from the mission or war winners perspective. And so aid any greifer or greifers. Or speed up any negative dynamic that might cause players to log.
None of you are willing to honestly tally a list of unintended consequences and human greifing you know from personal experience that will follow with a radically shortened time wait for side switching. From many years of experience with this game I and many of "you" know that when Hitech reduces the restrictions on us in the MA we proportionally increase our self serving actions. Why? The only real consequences imposed on us in the MA are for bad language and trying to hack the game. Everything else are back end administrator imposed dynamics controls.
Why are you afraid to list the negatives of your idea? Every change to a dynamic system like this game has benefits, negatives and unintended consequences.
To grant any game wish, you force Hitech to create that list anyway and weigh it against the benefits. All Hitech is doing is asking for the "Car Fax" for this used car which all of you seem to not have on hand. Or are attempting to ignore during this sales pitch in the hopes of well...conning the buyer...naww too strong, or is it.

bustr, are you sure that's the way it works with HT? If I wanted to keep my head and try community idea's at the same time I would not read into it as if it was a sales pitch. I would just skim the title and if it wet my appetite, I would take a glance at it to see if I could apply anything else that came with the idea (as good ideas tend to have just as good one's attached).
Since HT designed previous games and this game, I would bank on him being able to "goove" the idea into the "music" he is playing with this game, if it fits the style, and not copy the stuff behind it to too much. In fear of it weighing him down with its mostly added control mechanisms/emotional layers from players (people are always wanting to get their paws into places they shouldn't). Basically, if you are using the same "style" of mind, then its more of opening the possibility of what he already knows, but doesn't see/may have seen and forgot: But will see/see again, when you mention it.

A perk point switch system without time limit may be the answer. Award the difference in player count between the side a player is on and the outnumbered side he switches to. Charge the difference in player count between the side being switched from if a player is switching to a side with a numerical advantage.

Well, I meant a straight-up perk reward. It could be done to the tune of a .1 ratio.

so you replace your .10 addition to the perks you get instead of the perk multiplier that we have now. mmm.... which gives you more perks? oh yeah the perk multiplier.
as some wise guy once said, "what you ask for is not really what you want".

Then go back to the straight number and quit looking for a reason to whine away this option. It's instant gratification. No kills even needed. HT wanted a method to promote balance. This does it and quite possibly will occasionally dissuade 'spy' switching.
'Costing 80 perks to switch? Aw, man!' ;)
-
Why don't we get rid of the switch limit altogether and bind perks to the country instead?
-
One or 2 hours isn't enough time, but I'd like to see 3-4 hours maximum. Perhaps leaving it at 12 hours unless you are switching to the side with the fewest players

what is wrong with the idea, that
A-it costs some perks...
B-not allowed to equip bombs for an hr after switch
C-no coms for an hr after switch

Binding perks to countrie(s) and charging perks for changing country?
-
yea just think of it as a spy tax. :D
once a year each country re-distributes the spy tax to all players that haven't switched in that calendar year.
-
Why all the side switching? The most common reason given is , to balance sides. If that is true, there should never be a time limit set on a person that is attempting to switch sides to accomplish balanced game play. Remove the current side switching process where a player picks the country they wish to switch to.
Have one button for Balancing sides. A player clicks on that button, the system checks to see if the sides are unbalanced (greater than 10%) and if so, moves that player to the lowest number side. If a player doesn't want to help balance sides, he doesn't select the balance sides button. The player can if they want, hit the button to Balance sides again and again, no limit.
-
The problem is, there are a few different types of side switchers.
I just realized the free movement of people might offset the effect of spying, in a sense; as it will no longer by spying and just "changing sides" in an instant, really. Surprised I didn't see that before, I have been supporting the previous system in hopes of preserving some level of faction loyalty because it might be propping up the game numbers, but as I mentioned, it really is the crux of this issue. If you stop caring about side switching, you stop caring about loyalty and you stop caring about winning, which makes it more fun.
This is a game at heart, right?

I want to play on the smallest country.. I can do that during prime time, because it's predictable. The bishops will always be outnumbered during prime time.. however, if I want to play earlier in the day, I cannot, because bishops will have the numbers.
I do not play early in the afternoon because I cannot switch to the low # country and switch back in a few hours..

They should make it a week if not a month and get rid of Xcountry PM's too!
Rattler,

I'm tellin yas. No time restriction. Move to a lower number side - earn perks equivalent to the difference (after one hour of playing there). Move to a side with more numbers - pay perks equivalent to the difference - immediately. Perk multiplier is another thing entirely (for Semp). :D

I agree with this 100%. I'd be very happy with the "auto-switch to the low numbered country with unlimited switches" plan. :aok

Few years back I propped this one up, or one very similar.
You can change countries at will for a price.
Hit the change button and you get a choice.
a.) lowest population side = free
b.) highest population side = current 2x262 perk price in that country.
c.) mid population side = current 1.5x262 perk price in that country.
d.) change at will to any country every 12 hours from your last jump. This is for squads that jump every tour and those happy with 12 hours.
At this point Hitech will have to make sure perk points only count in the arena they are earned. A recent jump record and timer for the 12 hour will be needed to help players keep track of when they last hit the change country button. The players who want to follow the action always have the cost of a few 262 from listening to them brag about their skillz in this forum. (Money where your mouth is...) Or can farm them faster than the average player against average players.
Initially there would be a good deal of jumping. Then the perk banks would run low. Then a new adaptation to the cost of this imposed change would evolve as a game play tactic to maintain the cost of country jumps. Maybe more combat, maybe worse combat as the skillz crowd abuses the average players to feed their addiction to jumping to the action.
You guys are big on the utopian imagery to enhancing your fun addictions. Not a derned one of you wants to spoil the possible wave of change by honestly looking at boths sides over time like Hitech is forced to. I suppose by not honestly laying out both sides, when you don't get what you want. Then you can make it Hitech's fault for not seeing the wisdom of your short term needs.
-
In all honesty, who switches sides to "balance " the game out?
When u was a noob I did it but realized my attempt was futile.
-
In all honesty, who switches sides to "balance " the game out?
I would.
that was my point earlier. if I could switch more often than every 12 hours, I'd be playing this moment for the low country, then switch to bish in an hour or two when they become outnumbered. instead, I'll just not play for a couple hours..
so instead letting people switch more often, there's just one more player not playing at all for a couple hours.. surely less people isn't good.
being able to switch to low country any time would be ideal for me.
-
I just like to switch to low side and to meet others. Now days if sides get out of hand I just log for a couple of hours.
-
I'd like the time limit in the LW to be back to an hour or at the most 1.5 hours.
