Title: What do we "need"?
Post by: Rich46yo on June 19, 2013, 01:24:51 PM
Forget what you "want" for a moment. What aircraft do you think we "need" for an all inclusive WW2 flight game? Theres a difference.

Another way to ask is "what aircraft Dont we have that had the most impact on the war. I cant even answer this myself yet cause I have to think about it and maybe look up some statistics. Answering what you want is a lot easier.

Considering (combat) aircraft that aren't redundant with the units already in game, I'd say Petlyakov Pe-2, Yakovlev Yak-1-series, Bristol Beaufighter, Yokosuka D4Y and Mitsubishi Ki-21.

Beaufighter.  It's the most notable example of a plane that saw service from 40 until the end of the war that is not yet in game.

for an all inclusive ww2 flight game the answer is all.  however if you want airplanes that will be used once in a while in scenarios, just see above and below.  plenty will be suggested.

Warning, I inserted some player want, as well (the true art of compromise):

Some gov project to donate awesome supercomputers to HiTech that can do some real magic, including compensating for internet hiccups (and all the support equipment to go with them plus a generous donation for increased power usage without raising our rates)  :airplane: :joystick:

still wouldn't fix the internet hiccups caused by our isp or fix any of the problems along the 3000 miles of cable between you and htc. but it would keep their servers running well, at least to the first switch owned by their isp.

While I'd rather have the TU-2 the PE-2 probably fits the bill more. The Beaufighter would rate highly too.

Of course the HE-111 and KI-43 and Betty filled a huge gap.

I think the next update should be:
KI-61
KI-100
Beaufighter
A-26c

Being the only allied serving jet fighter, I think the Meteor is a must... however, would love to see the Fairey Swordfish :)  And yes, lots of other missing aircraft besides.

While they are only opinions, I see a lot of things on people's "need" list that would be really hard to justify on anything other than a "want" list.

The biggest holes would be filled by these:

Beaufighter
Bf109G-6/AS
D4Y 'Judy'
Do217 or He177A-5 or Ju188A
Il-4
La-5
LaGG-3
Pe-2
SM.79-II
Tu-2
Wellington
Yak-1
Yak-7

While I don't see late war exotics and other oddballs as a need, I can see valid arguments for them being needed to keep the game profitable for HTC.

Per that view, a 'Need' list might include some of the following:

A-26 Invader
B7A2 'Grace'
G.55
H8K2 'Emily'
He162
He177A-5
Il-10
J2M5 'Jack'
Ju188A-1
Ki-44-II 'Tojo'
Meteor Mk III
P-63
PBY-5
Re.2005
SB2C
Seafire L.Mk III
Tu-2
Yak-3

Things that are either 'different' from what we have now and/or would be competitive in the LWMA.
