In late war arena launched F4U1D with 2 notches flaps from cv while a Lancaster was dropping bombs on cv. Film attached.
Right flap was blown off just after clearing the deck.
The F4U flew level until flaps retracted, then wanted to roll left.
It appears the aileron trim tabs were trying to compensate and the autopilot was unable to hold wings level. It flew like 1/2 of left wing was missing or the right flap was stuck partially deployed.
Eventually deployed left flap 1 notch to give left wing additional lift and plane was more stable.
Plane didn't appear to fly like the damage would make it.
Thank You

The damage you see doesn't always match the damage that the plane actually has. From your description the right flap was damaged and stuck in the down position instead of being blown off.

Thanks! Probably should add that in the film you can see the right flap separate and fall away from the plane.

You may see the graphic of the flap falling away but I believe the flight modeling computes it as the flap is stuck in the position of where it was damaged / destroyed / blown off.
