The guy wouldn't say how they were exterminated, but probably a couple dozen cans of longrange wasp and hornet spray might do the job.

Yes, kill it with fire. The only way to be sure.

That was one aggressive nest too.
I come across Bee, Wasp and Yellow jacket nests all the time. I find that most of the time they dont really attack you as much as they feign an attack. that is. fly at you then turn away at the last second. Most of the nests I come across are much smaller though and I usually find them ehind shutters or behind the trim along the peaks. The hanging ones I typically just smack and knock down with my paint brush or just blast em when I'm powerwashing the house. Occasionally I use Wasp spray if they are in an area I cant really get at.
If your going to use spray you gotta hit em at dusk though after they have all returned to the nest or it will be a couple of days before they stop showing up

We get basketball-sized hornet nests on our mountain now and again, there is a small company who is MORE than happy to get rid of it, (I forget why they want the bees...I think they sell them to nearby VA Tech) At any rate, it's free :aok

That is crazy.

Screw going in. I'd have just seen if someone had an A-10 and a couple napalm canisters I could borrow.

I few years ago a guy living next door came over and wanted me to come look at a wasp nest in his house. I went. It was in the back bedroom, he had a infant baby (less than a year old) laying on the bed, and this wasp nest was in the corner and ran from the floor all the way into the ceiling! :O
And what does he ask me?....."ya think I should spray some gas on it"? :huh

best way I know bug sprayer with Dawn and water. smothers them and does not leave a mess, its just dishsoap and its cheap.

although very environmentally friendly, it takes too long and doesn't knock them down. look up pyrethrin, very effective and biodegradable.

Definitely a flamethrower target...f those things!

Yea, but for this nest you try that and you'd better have some serious protection on, or you will die. You gotta kill 'em quick. Like immediately, or you would get swarmed. .
Kill it with fire.
