Title: Virginia man selling airplane collection.
Post by: Gustav on June 25, 2013, 04:49:43 PM
I caught this on the news last night. I am kind of saddened as I never knew about this museum that may be closing as well. :( Also according to 13 News its one of the larger collections of WWI/WWII aircraft in the world.

(That JU87 pictured in the article is quite pretty, however.)

the WVEC (13 News) site shows the museum and the JU52. I can't seem to find images of the other planes in the collection in any other articles online. :headscratch: Anyone know what planes were in this guy's collection besides the B17 and 190 that have been sold?

Would be a very impressive place to see, hopefully it all goes to places that it can still be appreciated by the general public.

On a side note, I was reading their spring newsletter. Did anyone happen to make it to the warbirds over the beach?  Had a 262 planned on doing flybys, that would be neat to see.

Sad to hear.  They have a very nice collection.  Wonder if he will keep his Mosquito?

Now I feel a bit vindicated that I did not take a job offer there.

Its a ruse to get people to donate coin to keep HIS collection with donations from the public :old:

He is not short of coin at all :old:

How much should I send him?

Thanks for the link TopGear, Oddly enough the website wasn't working last night for me. :headscratch:

That is a nice collection of planes, however.

Seems odd. Maybe it's a ploy to encourage funding?

But if I was the person here in Ireland who just won $122 million dollars, tax free in the Eurolotto. I would be bidding on the following: The Corsair, Mosquito, Spit, Hurricane and maybe a couple of the trainers so I can get checked out on warbirds. I would also buy the local airport to house them all. That should take care of $20m. The rest of the money I'd waste. :x

Nope, he has already sold it all to one person from what i have been reading. The owner of Rare Bear and others, Rod Lewis.

However, it has not been confirmed, so it might not be 100% true.

Here is the big disscussion going on over at the Warbird information exchange.

Embezzlement is a beyotch.

I guess the B-17 and 190 are going one place, the Corsair and Mosquito to Mr Lewis.

The guys on the AAFO forums who are reno racers are involved with snapping a large amount of those planes.
