At random times I get a AH game crash:

mine crashes on a regular pattern, often involving alt-tabs, or just spawning on an airfield. I changed CPU brand and motherboard with no improvement.

is that 3gb of ram usage normal on the laptop you're using 5pointoh?
even though that is a pretty hefty laptop, i hope you're not also using wireless and overloading the usb controller with devices...

Unfortunately, there have been enough issues with Windows 8 and laptops, that most OEM's still offer Windows 7 instead.

That said, make sure you have disabled all the sleep and power savings options as well.
