This is the second nose art that my daughter has painted onto a section of old C-47 engine cowling for me. The first one (below) was a historically accurate piece. She did the nose art of Don Gentile’s P47. (He later flew a P-51 called “Shangri-La”).

This second nose art came entirely out of her imagination. Here is the original C-47 cowling.

I began painting the cowling before she showed me what she planned to put on it. I originally painted a yellow nose bad with black diamonds, just because I liked the way it looked. In this photo I propped it up in front of the wall where it will eventually be displayed. It will replace the unpainted cowl that I used to problem-solve the mounting process.

Then she showed my her idea for the nose art… Combining my love of old aviation and my referring to myself as an old guard dog, she drew a sheepdog wearing flying gear. I knew that the yellow and black I had already painted on the cowling just didn’t seem to go with the drawing…

So I repainted the nose band. The three row red and white checkerboard is based on the old Purina Dog Chow bags!

Here She has put the outline on the cowling…

And the finished product. I am continually amazed at her ability! I’ll post one more picture once the cowling is hung on the garage wall.

Daaaaamn that looks nice man :aok
Reminds me of the old wish a few months back of being able to add our own nose art / names to planes / numbers to planes.
Would be cool if we could scan a picture (if it was deemed appropriate), and then able to get that pixalized on to the plane of our choice (and we choose where it goes). Would have to be certain dimensions (like we have for avatars).
Just a thought...

Now I don't feel so bad bringing carburetors and valve bodies into the dining room and setting on the table. Hell Goaly is bringing airplane body parts in the house. :rofl

She is quite talented, that would sell for good money.

Thanks for all of the compliments. I have passed them on to my daughter. Here are the finished cowlings hanging in the garage… For an aviation buff like myself, it’s a pretty fun place to have a cold drink.

Thanks again for all of the compliments! I have passed them on to my daughter.
I have two of the blank C-47 cowlings left, and I told her that if she wanted to paint them, she could have whatever they bring. After seeing the rough draft for the next one, I may be regretting that decision! (I am not selling them here, I just wanted to show her work.)
Here is the cowling that I got ready for her.
And this is her rough draft for the artwork. The name on it will be, “Pappy’s Jug”
When she is finished, I think I am going to ask her to paint a slightly smaller version for my garage.
I’ll post pictures of the finished cowl once it is painted and sold.
Thanks again for the kind words about her work.

:aok OUTSTANDING..Great business plan
-
lots a talent there :aok
-
Woww :x that's awesome! The second one resembles the 339th FS because of the checkerboard. Looks great though!

It’s funny that this thread would resurface today. I was vacuuming the living room this morning, and noticed that our dog - who is afraid of the vacuum cleaner - had disappeared. I found her in the craft room like this… (The nose art on the cowling is about half finished.)
Also today, we both agreed that the yellow background disc just doesn’t look right. So in keeping with the ‘moonshine’ theme of the nose art, the yellow is going to be repainted to represent a full moon. It should be interesting.
Thanks again for your kind words. I’ll keep passing them on to my daughter.
CHEERS!

Well it's done. I think, the full moon does look better than the yellow disc.
-
Vey nice and I agree the full moon does look better..... moonshine and all! :devil
Now I just need my invite,or do I just drop by,likely be best went your not home as it's easier to explain to the wife about borrowing some of your tools..... :noid :rofl
:salute
-
I must be graphically illiterate or something, because to me the yellow disc represented the moon right from the start with a moonshine hint and all. I must admit, though, that the craters certainly add a twist there. A cartoon moon seems to be at least as often cheesy yellow as bluish white, depending also on the material
it is supposed to be made of. Awesome nevertheless! :aok
-
That is too cool!
-
she is very talented...don't let her lose that. :aok
-
Awesoem stuff!! Can I commission her for a piece?
