Hightone asked me to skin a Ki-43 from the 248th Sentai. This unit was active over New Guinea from November 1943 fighting the USAAF's 5th Air Force. The Ki-43 was by this time seriously outclassed by US aircraft. Also the IJAAF in New Guinea was badly outnumbered and at the end of a very long and vulnerable supply chain. As a result the 248th lost a third of its pilots in combat in the first month and almost all its ground crew personnel while still in transit to a US submarine. The 248th fought on until April 1944 when the US advance threatened to overrun their bases. With no air or sea transport available the surviving pilots then began a hellish six month march to safety through the New Guinea jungle from which only a handful of pilots survived.

A million thanks to you Greebo-san. I have always marveled at the bad luck the 248th had. Must of been one hell of a tough go.
Make that a billion thanks Greebo-san
