I used to LOVE this show on ABC. Curt Gowdy take celebrities on hunts that you could only dream about. It instantly made him one of my favorite sports announcers. My first yearning of catching a marlin was from watching The American Sportsman.
My favorite episodes were when they would get Phil Harris and Bing Crosby together. There was one when they were on a duck hunt and no ducks were flying that I will never forget. Those two were a party in search of a venue.

I had a greatest hits VHS at one time, unfortunately you cant fin any of the old AS anywhere except for a few clips on you tube.
And there were so many great ones. I still remember Fred Bear taking his polar Bear on AS. For a long time it was the only show out there for we sportsmen. And there were so many great episodes. Remember Peter Fonda's shot at the caribou with the 7mm mag? "Of course this was before he started tripping on LSD". I remember Hank Aaron duck hunting was the first black American on a hunting show.
I'd love to find DVDs of the entire series.

That show was chock full o' greatness. It made me a huge Curt Gowdy fan. I still want to catch a marlin off Baja.
