For those that change their name often, if we could please mute a player by their account number (or equivalent) that would be nice. This way we don't have to try to keep up with their name of the week.
Thanks.

You can't change you name that often.

I think this is more a thinly veiled attempt at witch hunting, and not to actually mute someone.

I don't think so. I have 2 players I mute the second I see their names pop up. One of them seems to enjoy changing names. Reading even a minute or two of their crap sets me off and kills any enjoyment I get from this game. I would love a perma-squelch. If HTC could give us a perma-squelch for an account number seeing as they don't want to kill a name off I could be very happy settling for that.

+1 for perma-squelch based on account number.

I want the opposite of mute, I wish that instead of muting a player the host puts them on everyone's ignore list for the duration of the offense. They can talk all the want but they suddenly have no audience. :)

they can talk all they want now when muted and have no audience.

Even if the wish is not for what I suspect it it (which I doubt) Allowing a permanent squelch for an account also would likely add a permanent squelch for a specific player. Doing that would ostracize any player from the community by popular vote. Even if the reason for muting was minor. Do some players deserve this? Perhaps, but giving that control to a group of players is not a good idea and leads further to my witch hunt comment.

:rofl :rofl :rofl
I agree but only if it echos back into their headset, cuz after all they are the ones who want to hear themselves talk! :devil
:salute

doubtful htc would allow us to see peoples account numbers in order to do what is being wished for, which is a permanent squelch. people have been wishing for a permanent squelch option for years and it hasn't happened yet.

I'm good with that.....if you've made SUCH an arse of yourself that dozens of people have voted to throw you off the island, you need some time out to reconsider your way
-
Careful what you wish for!
Think of it as our little boat in the sea. We need every one to help keep it afloat.
If we get too carried away with voting people off the boat it might sink.
Is that what we really want?
We already have adequate tools to deal with annoying players.

Not exactly. See, boats are big and heavy, regardless of whether they are made of steel or wood.
What makes them float?
All of the air (buoyancy) within that boat!
Now, with so many people with so much air in their heads on a wooden plank (our boat) in this pond (the sea), it all balances out.
Physics!

I suppose if they had helium in their heads....or at least hot air.....

Then by deduction the community would be able to keep a shade register. Who wouldn't like that ;)
-
BTW, I said acct# or equivalent to mute a player through all their new names.
Been programming many years. Easy to do without exposing someone's real acct#. ;)

:)
And it's still a solution for a non-problem. You can not change names as often as some of you are implying. On top of that, HTC has repeatedly stated there will no permasquelch at all ;)

How so? Is it not a bit like that now, with the report feature?
If a player is reported enough times, by his peers, there are consequences. There are also checks and balances (such as appealing to HTC after a mute) that keep the function from being abused.
It is not a witch hunt at all. There is no pretext of safeguarding the welfare of the public. It would be the comunity, at large, voicing their opinion about the type or volume of garbage they are willing to be subjected to.
For HTC, it is always going to be about the bottom line. Whatever is best for business is what is going to dictate their decisions on these types of matters. They are, after all, a business. ROI is king.
Would it be a loss of potential revenue if it were to be known that AH2 is a game that you can get booted by your peers if enough people become tired of your horse-crap or would it attract a higher caliber of player knowing that they would not have to be subjected to an XBox-esque cess pool?

Protecting the account number is irrelevant. You'd be able to track the list of shades.

I don't believe I have said anything about the frequency of name changing, just that this wish would make it a pointless exercise.

That wasn't meant to you. I quoted your post to highlight again how the shades "true" identity could be deduced :)

Oh yes. Apologies.
-
I'd just like to know what the problem is with shades, unless they are killing themselves to gain perks.
Some players just want to play undisturbed so why shouldn't they be allowed to?
As the squelch system works now,a player doesn't need to change names they just need to log out and back in and they who ever squelched them would have to do it again, annoying, possibly but how long do it take to open roster find name and select squelch....
I see no need for a permasquelch, turn off 200 if you don't want to put up with it! If you get a pm or Vox pm then squelch them by all means but this shade business is all about nothing. It's a game folks, meant to have fun with, more players need to realize this and quit thinking that being good at a game leads to fame and fortune.

Right over the head eh? :rofl

No witch hunt. Does not need to be shared info. It can be a hash, AKA algorithm that is never the same but always works. I just want to squelch some folks who I routinely like to avoid 100% of their posts on 200. 1 is 1 too many sometimes. I actually like much of 200's chatter...other than the extreme abuse candidates as determined by me. ...and you individually if such a feature is enabled.
As I said, programatically there are many ways to ensure it does not turn into a community thang. Not my intention. No need to over think this.
Thanks. :salute

You miss something. There has not to be any 'info shared' for deduction.
If player ABE is the only one I have permasquelched that way, and some weeks later I notice that there is now a player BUGSY I can't read without ever have squelched him, it's very clear that ABE = BUGSY. And I can quickly spread the word.
---
And again, players can't get new ID's "every few days" in the first place. You are limited to one change of ID per month. IF a player really gets new names quicker, he would use entirely new accounts.
-
As for me, I could give a crap what some 14 year-old chatterbox's latest name is....if I muted him under name #3, I don't wanna see/hear the little puke under names #4,#5#6, etc EITHER. There's about a half-dozen in game whom I never wish to see nor hear, and about the same number in here (interestingly, they aren't necessarily the same people in both)

Cant keep up with all the names. Again, for some 1 post is 1 post too many. If I could just mute one account regardless of the name that would be great.
I dont want to single anyone out to any community. No need to ostracize anyone. Just have it where each have the ability to mute at least one.
Thanks.

Yes but didn't they say there would be no B-29? :D

Actually no they never said there would be no B29,what they did say though was that there would be no NUKE!
If you look closely when the perks point system was put into place, they used the nonexistent B29 as an example of a perked plane!
On the other hand I have seen Hitech state several times there will be no permasquelch!
