I experimented with an earlier version of this some time ago but it had a detrimental effect on my framerate. Just tried the newer version again this week and didn't notice any impact at all.
If you have a webcam maybe you could give it a try. Easy to set up. It's called FaceTrackNoIR:-

Hope someone finds it useful.

interesting, they have a profile for ah. have to check the latest version to see if things have improved enough to use it with my webcam.

I'm on a 3 year old MacBook Pro using Windows in Bootcamp. Found the inbuilt iSight camera and worked no problem.
-
you got a working profile for it?
-
I'm still tinkering. It's quite easy to configure, go to curves on the lower right to alter sensitivity & response. The axes correspond to what you see in the upper left. I'm having a small problem configuring it to leave some of my views alone as I'm trying to use a mixture of this and hat switch. I tend to get a little motion sickness :uhoh

Yaw pitch and x for "motion adjustment" only :)

Aha! But how do I retain my standard head position when using my hat switch to look back? Because presently it is zoomed in (where I don't want it to be).

here is an older discussion on facetrack...might be a useful nugget in it.

Gave this a go and have been playing with the settings.

It's alright but it's the best settings I could get so far. Still having trouble looking up and behind, until I fix that I don't see myself using it often. I wouldn't reccomend it unless you managed to get the settings just right.

TGG93 in the top left there are six axes listed, one of them I think x, allows you to slide your head left and right, that's what I did so when you look back you can lean against the cockpit just as you would with a hat view. Give it a try.
The only trouble I'm having is the head position when I use my hat to look backwards. It's slid all the way up to the seat.
